Hi there, I did a search on Witling after I read The Assistant. I found a website for Whitling and it has a sequel called The Middleman, here's the link http://witling.neoblonde.com/completed.php ,this is the main page. The story is third from the bottom. I didn't see this one at the spander files.

Its title is 'The Assistant' by Witling and is available @ Spander Files. Its probably available elsewhere but I know its complete here.

I didn't see the above post when I posted my comment. Thank you so much baelman! I didn't know there was a sequel either and this is one of my fav stories.
