SECOND EVENT: THE MILGRAM EXPERIMENT

Jul 18, 2011 14:00

At exactly 2:00 in the afternoon, an announcement goes off: the intercom clicks on, and the warden reads a list of names. "... If your name has been called, please come to the cafeteria. You're to participate in the next event! If you do not go on your own, a guard will find and escort you ( Read more... )

Kuroudo Akabane is led into the students' half of the room. The teachers' half remains empty for several moments after he enters.

As soon as his name was called, Akabane went willingly over to the cafeteria. Even if these events were supposed to be deadly, they at least provided him with the entertainment he so craved. A short time later, he was escorted into a small room. Although he could see through the glass that split the room in two, it appeared that he was completely alone.

"The Milgram experiment, eh?" he mused, chuckling to himself. "Well, this should prove to be rather enjoyable. I suppose this would make me the student."

Walking to the center of the room, Akabane took a seat in the small chair, folding one leg over the other. There he sat patiently, eyes peering into the next room as he waited for his 'teacher' to enter.

Once Akabane is settled, his partner enters the teachers' half of the room. It's the warden herself, smiling ear to ear.

"Sorry to make you wait! I had to make that announcement, you see." She nods to him and draws a cue card from the table. "I assume you were listening as I announced the rules, so let's get started, shall we? First... Do you know what my name is?"

Upon seeing the warden herself enter, Akabane couldn't help but give a rather large and unsettling smile. "Ah, warden. What a pleasure to finally meet you in person."

He leaned back in his seat, hand coming up to grasp the brim of his hat. "Unfortunately, I do not. I have never before heard you formally introduce yourself to your inmates or the crowd."

"Oh, that's a pity." She frowns slightly, but despite the inmate's cordiality, she reaches forward to press the button and shock him. "For the record, you may call me Junko Fujimoto. It's a pleasure to meet you in person, #0024."

She waits for him to recover from the shock before she asks the next question.

"Gnh!"

The surprise shock had Akabane bent over, gritting his teeth slightly as he waited for the pain to pass. As soon as it did, however, he simply straightened himself and smiled once more.

"The pleasure is mine, Miss Fujimoto. If you so wish, you may call me Akabane."

"It's a pleasure," she says, flipping to the next card with a small smile on her face. "Second question, Akabane. What goes up and never comes down?"

"That would be one's age, would it not?"

"Oh, very good." One right, and one wrong. The warden's smile doesn't falter. Whatever she's thinking, she doesn't give it away.

She flips over to the next card. "If a plane crashes on the border between the United States and Mexico, where do they bury the survivors?"

Akabane closed his eyes, giving a small chuckle. "I can't say I know."

"Oh, you're not even going to try?" How boring. Ah well; surely he must know what's coming next.

She reaches forward and presses the button yet again. Once the shock has finished taking its toll on him, she asks, "How was that?"

A light sheen of sweat now covered his brow, but still Akabane continued to smile.

"If you would be so kind, I would like to hear the next question."

"Oh, of course." She moves on to the next card and continues.

"Tell me, who was the first president of the United States of America?"

"That would be George Washington, if I am not mistaken."

"Nice job! You're on a roll, Akabane!" Her voice sounds fond, though of course what she's really thinking is a mystery.

She reads the next question. "How many light-years would it take to travel to Alpha Centauri?"

He had to pause on this one for a bit. As curious as he was to see how high they would raise the voltage on him, Akabane had to admit that that last shock had hurt quite a bit.

"That is the second closest star following the sun, is it not? I shall hazard a guess to around 4 light years."
