Clothed in His righteousness

May 04, 2014 03:12

So I was doing a studying the other day and I stumbled across something I have look over and missed several times. Does this make sense or am I crazy?

I am studying what Martin Luther, one of the great church fathers, called "The Great Exchange". This says that at the cross of Jesus Christ there was an exchange that was made. The trade that was made was that Jesus would take our sins and those who believe in his name would recieve the righteosness of
Christ.

--So remember this is the theme: Our sins for His righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21.ESV For our sake he {made him to be sin} who knew no sin, so that in him {we might become the righteousness of God.}

--I have found that the Bible speaks of righteousness as clothing. It says to Put Off or Put On like you are removing or adding clothing:

Ephesians 4:22.ESV {to put off your old self}, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to {put on the new self}, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Galatians 3:27.ESV For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have {put on Christ.}

Colossians 3:9-10 ESV
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have {put off the old self} with its practices and have {put on the new self}, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

--So this is what blows my mind, when Jesus was crucified there where some soldies who cast losts for his clothing:

John 19:23.ESV When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things,

--The clothing they were dividing among themselves was symbolic of the righteousness of Christ being distributed between many!!!

Isaiah 53:11.ESV Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, {make many to be accounted righteous}, and {he shall bear their iniquities}. Therefore I will {divide him a portion with the many}, and he shall {divide the spoil with the strong}, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors

The simple garments divided up between the four soldiers represents common grace distributed to
every corner of the world. (This is the benefits of the atoning work of Christ as Christianity's influence in the world, hospitals,education, adoption, value of human life, ect.)

The seamless tunic represents Saving Grace to God's elect. Those that will inherit eternal life. This is the one they cast lots over. In proverbs it says lots are cast but it is the Lord who decideds.
It is really complex and I do not understand fully.
