Genesis chapter 14:

An epic battle breaks out between the nations of the land. The city of Sodom was overrun and plundered. After picking which plot of land he wanted. Lot set up camp outside of Sodom. When it was overrun he was taken captive. When Abram heard of this he rounded up a bunch of men from his camp and lead them to battle to rescue Lot. Abram successfuly rescues Lot and the other captives. Among them the king of Sodom and Melchizedek king and priest of God Most-High of Salem. Melchizedek is a bit of a mystery. He is a foreshadowing of Jesus who is King of kings and our Highest Priest. The king of Sodom and Melchizedek come out to meet Abram after the battle. Melchizedek brought out bread and wine for Abram to partake of. Then he blesses him. This is strange because so far there has been no other Christians mentioned. Now there is this guy who is high priest, who serves the same God, he brings out communion like 4000 years before Jesus tells us to do it. Then Abram gives him ten percent of everything. This is the first tithe, long before it was commanded. To the king of Sodom Abram tells him that he will not accept any of the plunder from him or his people. He tells him that God is a good God who has blessed him. That God will be the only one who he depends on. But unlike most Christians today he doesn't force his beliefs on his men who we have no indication that they followed God. He tells the king of Sodom to let his men have their shares if they wish. He tells them about what God can do for them and then lets the do as they think best.
