You know Latin? No one speaks that anymore. It must be exciting to know a dead language!

Latin has never died. There are many who know the language far better than I.

But no one speaks it anymore. That's what a dead language is.

Well. No native people and stuff. Like here the native language is English. And in France it's French. And in Italy it's Italian. And in Brazil it's Portuguese.

French, Spanish, Italian, Portugese, my native tongue Romanian, are all rooted in this so-called dead language.

You are an American are you not, child?

Well, yeah. They all came from it. But they're all so different now!

Um. Yes. And I'm not really a child. I'm twelve.

You are a child, girl. Far younger than I.

I believe several of your legal terms are rooted in Latin.

Habeas corpus, bona fide, de facto, veto, just to name a few.

The language is not dead. It still exists, still preserved in everyday society, child.

I'm a young adult. Not a child. Children are like. Ten and smaller.

Well, yeah, Latin is in English and other languages, but it's not spoken all by itself anymore is what I mean by dead.

What is your name, child?
