(no subject)
I've been thinking about religion and the bible a bit lately (mostly because of this story).
Now I have to say I find religion, mythology and the faith that people can have in it fascinating, mostly, I think, because I don't or possibly can't have it.
See I believe in the science of things, I know the theories (or at least the ones I have read) and while some things aren't explained and probably never can be, it makes sense to me. I can understand having just evolved by pure chance. If you think about it that almost makes it more special and more amazing then saying we just *Poit* appeared fully formed. I mean one little thing, one little change and we'd be completely different.
Now don't get me wrong I like the Bible, I think it's a neat idea and a fascinating story, but that's all, just a story, the best selling bit of fiction out there. I- I just think there are too many contradictions in it. God is meant to be All-seeing, but He didn't see that Eve would eat the apple, or that we'd become so sinful that He would need to flood the planet? To me that's kind of like a seer tripping and falling into her mashed potatoes only to stand up and go "I was meant to do that".
Plus you read through it and He really is a bastard, He wants every human to be loyal to him, to love no one but Him. Then he wants all the angels that He made to love Him to love us and the one angel who refuses, who loves Him and only Him, the most beautiful, the most loved (and apparently most loyal), God's favorite! Lucifer, The Morning Star gets banished, tossed down and out of God's presence forever. Which I think is what bothers me the most: the treatment of God's creations by God.
I'm one of those that if I could believe in the Bible and it's tales, believe in God and Lucifer, it wouldn't be God I'd follow. I think Lucifer is better, stronger in character; he stood up for what he believed in, he gave us knowledge and the ability to see the difference between right and wrong, he lets us think for ourselves whereas God, I think, would rather we be slaves to Him. That ranks high in my book. It's my opinion that too many people look up for help with their problems when they should be looking within. We humans are amazing creatures with tons of potential, but if we keep looking up we're going to miss what's right in front of us and eventually we will crash.
