Elizabeth saw what was happening and fought against Huginn to try to get close to them to try to shield the girl from what was going on. “Let me go. I won’t let my husband’s daughter get killed by that man.” She elbowed him to get free. Part of her wondered where Miles had gotten off to. The cat was supposed to protect the girl. That’s what they had agreed on.
“Aunt Beth!” Trin tried to get up, only to cry out in pain as she was kicked back to the ground. Lying still she closed her eyes wishing that it was over and that Michael or Mommy were hugging her telling her that she was safe. Her dad shoved the man she had bit away from her.
“Only one person’s allowed to hit my daughter. It’s not you.” She cried out as she was pulled by her hair to her feet.
“Daddy! Stop, please hurts…” She tried to grab his hand to make him let her go. She remembered Michael giving her permission to kick anyone who scared her. Trying to lash out at him she cried as he grabbed her arm easily knocking her off balance.
Shadows swirled around the two of them. Trinity screamed scared. When she could see again, they were in the basement. There was a strange glowing circle on the floor around them and low chanting. She saw Michael was standing off to the side, his hands balled in fists, but he didn’t move closer.
“Mike… Mike what’s going on?” She whimpered. A hand reached out and her father screamed releasing her. Another pair of hands moved to scoop her up, moving her out of the glowing ring.
“I warned you not to come near my grand children or my daughter did I not?” Trinity felt the arms holding her move to hold her protectively. They hadn’t freed her arms, but it was clear they weren’t going to hurt her. Mike moved closer taking her. She hugged him the best she could crying into his shoulder.
“Father, deal with my grand children. Make sure Trinity’s okay. I’ll deal with him.”
The elder of the two nodded ushering Michael and Tony through another door. Trinity could hear her sister crying and fought to control her own tears knowing her sister would need her.
“Oh come on Sarah… I know you’re hungry, but I’m not Aunt Marcy okay? You’ll have to take a bottle.” Tony was cooing trying to get the baby to take a bottle to hush her.
“You have never had a way with infants Anthony.” The older voice chuckled. “Why don’t you help Michael get Trinity cleaned up. Careful about freeing her wrists, I have a feeling they tightened the tie enough that it’ll be hard to remove without cutting into her.
She didn’t like that idea. The plastic tie was already cutting her, she could feel it and didn’t want to be bleeding more, but on the other hand sooner it was off sooner it would stop hurting right. “Then can I hold Sarah? Please? I want to know she’s okay.” The tears caught in her throat as she spoke.
Tony cut the strip of plastic freeing her. She was set on something soft and a light was turned on. Blinking she saw the man who had scared her holding the baby shushing her while feeding her from a bottle. Looking at what she was sitting on she saw the laundry basket her brother had put her on. “Aunt’s clean laundry…”
“It can be washed again, this is the only room charmed as a panic room. Grandpa’s going to be summoning some things to deal with your dad. You’re going to have to stay here until he opens the door.” Tony was getting a small first aid kit out. “Trin hold out your hands okay? I want to clean them so they don’t get infected…” That was when he saw the blood on her clothing. “Trin, who was shot?”
“It was a pretty black cat. He, he attacked Deputy Joshua, the sheriff shot him to get him off.” Her shoulders hitched as she spoke. “The eyes were changing, they looked almost human. Will, will he die? Please, I don’t want him to die because of me. He was trying to save me from them.” The tears wouldn’t stop this time. Tony bandaged her wrists and pulled her into a hug.
“It’s okay, doubt they were using silver shot. Miles will be okay. He’s tougher than most people. He bought us time and I have a feeling Gramps locked onto his blood to bring the two of you down here.” She clung to him nodding.
The screams from outside the room almost made Michael open the door, but he remembered what he had been told. Whatever he did, he wasn’t to allow anyone in or out of the room when they entered. Not until the man proclaiming to be their grandfather knocked on the door. And with how Trin was crying, he didn’t want to risk her seeing anything else that could traumatize her.
He slid out of his jacket, draping it over her shoulders. “Think you still want to hold Sarah kiddo?” He brushed the hair from her face and grabbed the wall near him one hand going to his temple.
“Mike?” She looked at him worriedly. “Mike what’s wrong?”
“Feels like I was kicked… It’s okay, probably just stress kiddo. I’ll be fine. It’s you I’m worried about. I mean running off like that, you could have gotten killed.”
“I didn’t want him hurting Doctor James or Miss Jasmine.” Her shoulders hitched again and Tony scooped her up hugging her close.
“It’s okay, Jasmine’s taking care of the doc upstairs. When it’s safe to leave the room we’ll go up and see him okay? Mom’s going to be mad her dinner was ruined. Maybe you can help her with making something else? I know you like helping in the kitchen, and your food always tastes better than what mom makes on her own.” He was trying to get her mind off things as he glanced to Mike.
The other teen shot him a ‘thank you’ look. Clearly glad Tony was on top of things.
