Church looks up, helmet on the desk next to a short stack of papers. His eyes are sort of sunken, sporting dark circles, as if he hasn't slept in a few days- no wonder he hasn't been without his helmet all week. His face drops even further, if possible, at the sight of Tex. He's managed to avoid her since she tossed the bag on the table the day Flowers came back, but he guesses his luck's gotta run out sometime.
"I'd rather you didn't," he replies dryly. "In fact, just don't say anything at all. Just have a happy fucking new year and get out. I've got work to do." With that, he returns his attention to the sheaf of forms in front of him, gripping a pen in an apparent attempt to keep his cool.
"You, my dearest cockbite, and I mean that in the most literal sense." Tex paused as she stepped further into the room, already smelling the tension in the air, "You do not order me around. I take orders from two people, and you ain't one of 'em. Now then gringo, I've got a family that dearly misses me, so if you'll kindly fuck off, I'd like to let them know I'm still breathing." Tex drummed the console with her fingers impatiently.
"S'called regulations, cock nazi," Church retorts. He scowls up at Tex again, fist clenched around his pen, eyes darkening. "Unlike you, I've got a responsibility or two. You can comm out to your pimp any day of the fucking week and go home, but some of us? We get to deal with it. So fuck off and call your boss," he growls, "or if you plan on sticking around and making us miserable, write a motherfucking letter home like everyone else." The pen snaps in his hand, and he shakes it to the floor before the ink can leak on his hand. He starts pawing over the desk and opening drawers with a snarl, trying in vain to tune her out.
Tex felt like punching his lights out solely for the pimp remark, but decided to keep herself in check for a little bit. She let her voice slip into her innocent tone.
"Now, now, Leo sweety, that's not very nice. You know I've got a loving family back home that would very much like to know their daughter's making her way in the universe. It's new years, I'm sure you can let those silly old regs rest for a night or two. I'm sure my sister would love to see you again, after you ran off with me..." She grinned, knowing that would hurt.
Church slows his searching to a stop. He closes the drawer he was rummaging through quietly and deliberately, turning in his chair to regard Tex with an unnaturally calm gaze.
"Considering what you did with her husband for a ride to Dallas a year after that, I seriously doubt she'd wanna hear from you, either. come to think of it," he continues quietly, "your parents would probably have a heart attack knowing their lowdown little slut's anywhere but in jail or a crack house. No, I think for their own good, I'm gonna have to keep you off the unit."
"Ouch! An arrow through my heart! Why did I ever suffer you for so long? Besides, that crumbum was no good for her and you know it. Everyone knew but dear sweet sis. And by the way, my parents are kind, forgiving, and love me to death. Unlike some who leave their children to be jailbait. Though, I guess you did learn some skills on the inside you're putting to use now. Tell me, do they really you guys like you in there as currency?" She giggled.
"I wouldn't know," mutters Church. "I was good enough for solitary." He turns to the comm server and enters the lock sequence, shutting access from those not on the actual team. "I didn't have to blow for bail, though. I'm not a special case like you." He stands up after locking the unit and turns around, crossing his arms. His head is comically small against the rest of his armor, but that doesn't offset the venom in his scowl, or the black in his eyes. Tex used to like when he had such an ominous air, but he couldn't care less now- it's not something he can help anyway.
"You suffered me because I was there when you were blitzed, horny or broke. Because I could afford you, whether I wanted to or not. God forgive me that mistake," he spits, "because I'm not your fucking puppy dog anymore. So stop acting like it."
Tex stuck her bottom lip out, a pouty look that melted guys back home.
"Aw, is my poor lil Church Steeple broke? Did he think he could grow balls." She laughed, "I certainly didn't ask for you to follow me around. I gave you swirlies in high school for christ's sake you nancy. Then I pitied you. I thought, 'Now then, maybe this kid needs to be take underwing, shown the world. Maybe I can toughen him up.' Look at ya now." She wiped a fake tear away.
"I'd almost be proud if you weren't such a queer. I guess pegged you right day 1. And by the way, I wonder how your parents would take it if your parents found out you liked kissing cocks more than girls' lips..." Tex tapped her chin thoughtfully. It felt like the old days again, she was in control and had a toy, willing or not.
"Mom couldn't have cared less about it. Dad woulda shit a brick... if I hadn't busted him up the last time I saw him." Church jerks his head almost noncommitally behind him, as if addressing the past behind him. "Once I realized every fucking girl in the universe is just as bad as you in different ways, I figured cock wouldn't be so bad. And whaddya know... cheaper, cleaner, better than you." He flashes a sick grin before he uncrosses his arms and stands up straight, reaching past Tex to open the door. There, he waves his other hand to the opening.
"Now get out," he intones menacingly. "Before I take you out. You'll get your fucking comm time tomorrow."
"You really are serious aren't you? Then again, I guess having your stomach pumped so many times could possibly cause brain damage. I'm entitled to this comm unit just as much as anyone else, and I'm damned if I've seen you do anything more worthwhile around here then what I've done. So stand aside fudgepacker, you know I can beat your lily ass without breaking a sweat." Tex refelxively assumed a defensive pose, just in case Church really decided to try and fight her.
"Sounds like you need anatomy lessons. Fine," he growls, slamming the door shut again. "You wanna fuck around, we'll fuck around. Whatever gets you out of my hair. I don't have time for your brand of conversation today, Allie." He grabs her wrists and steps forward, keeping a tight grip- but not tight enough to break her wrists, mindful of the armor. "How do you wanna fuck shit up this time?"
For a split second, Church leans into it and responds out of instinct. As soon as he realizes his tongue is coming out, however, he snaps his head to the side and spits. "What the hell is your problem?" he demands, shoving Tex up against the wall hard enough to knock her head on it. "Thought you didn't like cockbreath."
Caboose wandered towards the comm room, he'd said he'd come and sit quietly next to Church earlier; and he always did what he promised for Church. But he heard the door slam, and that... wasn't good. It wasn't good at all.
So Caboose pried open one of the vent grills that went through the wall from the corridor into the Comm room.
Seeing Tex kiss Church made Caboose seize up, rage building at Tex for touching what was his… and also Donut’s but most of the time his. But the rage dropped away to anger when he saw Church spit and then shove Tex.
Tex grimaced as she slammed back into the wall, her head rebounding off the surface. She wiped her mouth with her forearm, thanking god she didn't taste any blood. She thought she heard the rustling of a grating coming undone, but decided to continue with the game.
"I never said I did. I figured either you'd let go or you'd come to your senses. Honestly, you think I'd let you hit me if I didn't want you to?" She gracefully walked over to the comm chair and sat in it, ready to leap or do one of the hundred other combat moves she'd learned in the Freelancer Project.
"Besides Leo, you know me, I'm no homophobe. I was hoping to fluster you and get you out of here so I could make my calls."
Church stalks toward the desk, plants a foot against the side of the comm screen, and kicks violently. The unit skids across the desk and crashes off the side, sending a flurry of papers, supplies and wires over with it. The casing bounces off the side of the comm server and electronic bits spew across the floor. When the screen hits, a crack flies across it, and a little plasma oozes out from the works through the cracking. "You don't fucking start with me and walk away, Allie. Not this time. Not ever again."
"I'd rather you didn't," he replies dryly. "In fact, just don't say anything at all. Just have a happy fucking new year and get out. I've got work to do." With that, he returns his attention to the sheaf of forms in front of him, gripping a pen in an apparent attempt to keep his cool.
