Within a couple of hours, Church twitches himself awake. At first, he panics; being pinned isn't the best way to wake up. When he remembers how he got there, however, he relaxes. He really ought to learn how to wake up more alert- he should be used to this by now. He runs through his routine string of awakening thoughts- it's not cold, he doesn ( Read more... )

"Yeah, you do, don't you?" Church agrees quietly. "So does he..." The sorrow etched in Grif's rambling sticks to him. If he wasn't so sure of his own feelings, he'd withdraw and relinquish his ownership of Donut right now. But he knows that things are a lot more complicated than that. Kid is a ray of fucking sunshine when he isn't being an annoying little pissant. Reminds Church of himself, actually... before Tex, he gave too much of himself and probably even afterward, hurting people when he didn't have to, or mean to. Not like Donut means it either, though.

With a sigh, Church pulls an uncharacteristic stunt. Partially separating himself from Grif, he leans back and carefully hangs his arms over Grif's shoulders in an awkward hug. He has to concentrate so he won't fall through, and this probably feels cold to Grif. "I didn't mean to be the bad guy," he murmurs brokenly. "Fuck, I didn't even know at first. I'm not here to take him away from you, as long as you can promise me the same... and make sure you be good to him..." Church hangs his head halfway into Grif's back, feeling the other's spine push through his brain in his partially manifested state. "I swear to god I'm not here to fuck things up," he mutters, sounding more like he's trying to convince himself.

Grif shivers at the unexpected sensations he feels, rubbing his hands up and down his own arms in an attempt hide the goosebumps. He mutters a few things incoherently, mostly just stupid ramblings to himself.

"hmph...There's no possible way for me to be bad to Donut. But while we're on that subject," He growls, feeling a fire burn within him, "If I ever find out you do anything to hurt, emotionally or physically, Donut...You will be dead twice over...and there will be ghost around either..."

He trailed off. He felt a little better, having that gotten off his mind. Grif sighed, not knowing if that was the best way to approach the matter. Buuut...it was out now, and there was no taking it back. He clenched his eyes shut and rubbed the bridge of his nose in frustration with himself.

"Sorry...that really didn't come out right..."

"Sure it did," mutters Church. He chuckles wryly and shakes his head. "I can't say I don't share the sentiment, to an extent. If you hurt him in a way he doesn't like..." he sighs. "What the hell are we threatening each other for?" He sinks through the bed and stands up, stepping out of the frame and remaining at the bedside. His outline is barely visible, especially in the darkness of the room. "I came here to see who I'm sharing with. I wanted to go inside and see how you really feel, scare you up a little to make sure you don't leave him... I guess I'm not so good at spying."

"I don't know why we're threatening each other. Makes us feel better?" Grif shrugged and chuckled quietly. He looked up at Church, studying him carefully. It was strange looking at the apparation. It seemed so strange to be standing in the room with him. Gave him the chills.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. If you were good you would still be...spying. Not standing there and having a civil conversation with me. Don't take a job as a spy...You'd suck at it." He didn't really even understand his own rambling. He stopped abruptly, figuring he should while he was ahead. Yup, that was him...random, non-important rambling...

"Yeah, I probably would. Until I actually tried, that is." Church kneels next to the bed, losing his concentration and fading in and out of view sporadically. When his face is visible, it looks somewhat distraught. "Look, I'm sorry I got into your mind. I saw some things I probably shouldn't have, and I'm sorry. I'll forget'em if I can, or if you're an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, I'll let you see mine. I honestly don't care. But for any other way I can be useless to you, I want to at least be your friend." Church frowns and offers his hand, concentrating on at least making it cold so Grif knows that the thought of a handshake is there.

Grif sighed and took a few deep breaths. Church did stumble across some memories he rather would not have been reminded of, but it wasn't exactly his fault.

"Nah, it's fine. It's time I face them anyways. Been a while since I thought about some of...of those memories." He choked up for a second. He metally slapped himself and calmed down. Grif looked down at Church's form, and the hand he held out. He felt a little uncomfortable about it, but if it was going to make Donut happy...then he'd do it. He reached out his hand, instantly feeling the coldness sweep up his arm.

"Yeah...I guess we can be friends. Or try at least. Keep in mind I'm still a little..." Grif trailed off, not quite sure how to finish the sentence...

"Pissed? Confused, maybe?" Church offers, hand passing through Grif's with a slight resistance, like water. "Yeah... I think we all are. This whole canyon is a fucking soap opera." He waves his hand noncommitally. "You wouldn't believe half the shit I found out about some of these guys when I was dead. You get bored sometime, come ask me." Church frowns a little, feeling a tug for some reason. Someone is messing with his body. "Listen, I gotta go make sure my base is still there. You feel better, come hang out. Not like anyone's at war right now or anything. And Caboose would LOVE to have a new friend," he adds dryly. He stands up and leans forward, staring into Grif's bloodshot eyes. "Be good to him and I'll get him home safe and sound every time." He leans further until his head is juxtaposed with Grif's. And I won't tell him anything I saw in here... I know he doesn't know.

"Yeah, Something like that." Grif mumbled. He was a little more then pissed and confused, but that was for himself to know. He smirked at Church's soap opera comment, realizing how true it was.

"How true. I swear this place is getting more fucked up each day." He ejected, looking down at the blankets he started to pick at. When he looked up moments later, he was met with Church's ghostly eyes and jumped ever so slightly in suprise. Grif just sat and listened to what Church said, fighting the urge to cry.

And I won't tell him anything I saw in here... I know he doesn't know. Grif could hear the words echo in his head as he clenched his eyes and fists. There was so much he hadn't told anyone...and now Church knew. It hurt so bad, he just tried to push it away. Now it was all coming back and he didn't know if he could handle it.

Don't remind me... He thought, unconsciously sending this last thought to Church before they seperated, Don't remind me of the past...

"Not until you're ready for it," Church agrees with a nod.

He stands up again and feels another tug. That's getting really fucking annoying. He raises a hand to Grif and doesn't bother with niceties, jogging straight out the wall and cussing under his breath the whole way.
