Caboose darted from shadow to shadow, only an intermittent flash of cobalt could be observed, and only if someone didn’t blink. His Inner O’Malley wasn’t fully active, he had only called on it a little, with the plan not to hurt the Reds; just to find Donut and explain with no room for misinterpretation exactly what would happen. He would in no way ( Read more... )

Grif looked up from where he was sitting, tucked away in a corner with yet another cigarette hanging from his fingers. He furrowed his eyebrows, rather confused on who it would be. It couldn't be Donut, he just left. Sarge never knocked...there was no one else.

"Come in?" He called out, watching the door from where he sat.

Caboose opened the door and entered slowly his hands extended fully so Grif could plainly see he wasn't holding his weapon. Caboose spied Grif in the corner and headed over to him, putting his back to the wall and sliding down, ending up sitting crosslegged next to Grif.

Now he was here he didn't have the slightest clue what to say. At all, he wasn't even that good at making idle conversation. So he reached out and tentatively patted Grif’s shoulder.

Grif raised an eyebrow and cocked his head to the side as Caboose entered. He watched him closely as he came closer, finding a place next to him. He continued to watch him, putting out the cig in the ashtray next to him.

"...Err...Hi?" He didn't exactly know what to say. He had to admit he never before found himself sitting in the same room as the guy who was dating the guy that was screwing his boyfriend. He frowned, shaking the thoughts from his head. He had to remind himself that now was not the time to be brooding.

"...Need...something?"

"Hi. No I don't, I just thought you might."

"I thought you might want to talk to me, since I'm in the same situation type thing. If you wanted to vent or something since I understand, well okay I don't, but probably more then anyone else here can."

He blinked several times. This has turned out to be a veeery interesting day. He smiled softly and shrugged. He opened his mouth to respond, and then realized he really didn't know what to say.

"I dunno. I think I vented all I can vent." He rests his head against the wall and stares at the ceiling. He clicks his tongue randomly, trying to find something to say amoung his running thoughts.

"How...how did you take it?" He asked, simply curious. It felt kinda nice to be able to relate to someone...

"I was very sad, I shreaded the bench I was sitting on with my hands. One of the nice metal ones. Then Church explained that he wasn't dumping me. So I felt a bit better. Then I talked with him for ages and we held hands and he said he wouldn't leave me, he'd stick around as long as I want him. So I felt a whole lot better."

"Then a while later I came here cloaked, ambushed Donut and then told him never to hurt Church, ever. Then told him he was still my friend, then came here to make you feel better."

"How about you? Donut looked sad but not too sad when I saw him. How are you taking it?"

Grif looked to the ground, suddenly very interested with the carpet. He took several drawn out breaths before speaking up.

"I'm taking it as it comes. I'm quite mixed up, actually. I felt angry at first, breaking a glass in the process," He explained, indicating the broken glass on the other side of the room that he forgot to clean up, "But I calmed down. I said things I shouldn't have, too. I felt bad though, so I took it back."

He swallowed hard, choking back any hidden tears. He plucked at the floor, thinking about what he wanted to say next.

"It's definetely gunna need some getting used to. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'll try and cope. I promised Fra-...Donut, I promised him I'd try."

"Do you want to threaten Church about what you'll do if he ever hurt Donut? Because as long as you don't hurt him I promise I won't interfere; it made me feel a whole lot better. Broken glass can hurt, you shouldn't not wear boots in here till you vaccum, one time I missed cleaning up this tiny little sliver of glass and months later it stabbed into the arch of my foot. I was bleeding all over the floor."

Caboose threaded his arm between Grif and wall, then pulled him in to give him a quick hug. He let go almost instantly though.

"I know what you mean, it's going to be weird for ages, I kinda let Church think I was handling it a little bit better then I was. It's... nice to have someone to talk to outloud with about it."

"I don't feel like going out of my way to cause more problems. I think that when the time is right, I'll tell Church what I need to tell him. For now, I think I just need to relax. Some time to think about things."

Grif turned to Caboose and flashed a quick smile. He was starting to feel better, knowing he wasn't alone. He gave the blue and awkward pat on the shoulder before turning back to staring at the floor.

"Good advice, by the way. I don't think it would be very fun to get glass stuck in my foot. Got enough problems as it is."

Caboose liked making new friends, and Grif patted him which was good. He was a very tactile guy, he loved to be patted.

"Thanks; my Dad gave me cool advice sometimes, about cows and milk."

"The glass didn't hurt that much really. See one time I slid down a gravel embankment without any armor. This turrent thing on the training course was broken and about to explode, and my friend got hurt. So I slid down the embankment holding him. I really like my armor."

"So um want to get your mind off it? Where are you from?"

Grif chuckled quietly. He could get used to hanging out with him, it was kind of entertaining.

"Well, let's see...I grew up on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada. Lived there all my life until I came to red boot. Not really an exciting guy, am I?"

"So, yeah. Where are you from?" He shifted the conversation, wanting to keep away from his past memories...for now.

"Neat! Can you play cards good? I can't, the rules are too complicated or everyone knows when I have a good hand. Las Vegas is the gambling place isn't it? Or is the gambling place Salt Lake City, and Vegas the religious place, I can never remember."

Caboose paused for a second, thinking about how to sum up where he was from.

"Well I'm Tauan, from the heavy world colony Tau. I was born there, and never would have left but our colony got evacuated to Earth when the Covenant were comming. So I finished highschool on Earth staying with some distant relatives, and then when I graduated I joined the army to help fight the Covenant. I just wanted to help the war be over so I could go home, everything is too light on Earth. But then the Master Cheif blew up their whole armarda and I was already here."

"Where you popular at School? I wasn't, but then I joined the wrestling team and had to wear the tight sports uniform thing, after that I had lots of friends."

"Yeah, I can play cards. My best friend was a big troublemaker, he would always be able to sneak into the big casinos. We would play all the time. And yes, Las Vegas is the gambling place."

Grif smirked and shook his head. Times were very interesting in High School. 'Specially if you knew the people he did.

"I wouldn't say I was very popular. I had about...two or three good friends. I didn't get along with anyone else."

Grif paused for a second, and studied Caboose for a split second.

"You were on a wrestling team? Heh, that's interesting. I was, too. Never liked the uniforms. The girls liked 'em though."

"Did your friends join the army too? Were they on the wrestling team?"

Caboose smiled over at Grif, a fellow Wrestler; Grif was getting cooler all the time.

"Really you too? The uniforms were kind of uncomfortable, and yeah the girls did, so did a bunch of the guys. Our team had this group of guys and girls who'd be at every game, and they weren't cheerleaders. It was cool, did yours? A few of those guys would always be trying out, and we even Tutored them, you'd think they liked being pinned."

Caboose got the front of the torso armor plate off turning so Grif could see his muscles.

"I was a good wrestler, because I'm big."

"No, none of my friends joined the army. They all stayed behind in Vegas to gamble. That's all they ever wanted to do. None of them were on the team with me, either."

"Yeah, we had a little fan club that came to every game, too." He said laughing, "But I never had time to tutor them or anything. I had alot of work, so I could never participate in the tutoring sessions."

Grif looked over at Caboose, eyeing his muscle. He smiled nervously, playing with the hem of his shirt.

"Wow...You look...strong. I don't think I'm as strong as you though, plus it's been a while since I've wrestled. I think I've lost all my muscle and skills when I came here..."

"Aww that can't be, wrestling is like... well actually I did forget how to ride a bike once, but it's supposed to be something you don't forget."

Grif liked material, or so Caboose figured, first he was touching the carpet for ages and now he was touching his shirt. Maybe thats why he didn't like the uniforms they made wrestlers wear, they wern't nice material.

"If you've lost your muscle tone you could train, I could help. I like helping more then I like wrestling. We could even have wrestling matches, even with all the stuff command is sending now it still gets boring here sometimes."
