homeward

She'd been tracked by more of the creatures she'd noticed on her journey away from
the portal. It being past sunset, she decided that tackling them in wolfen shape
would be the better choice.
Even so, she had a rough time of it. They weren't fast, but tough, and numerous.
When she caught what she believed was Faith's scent, she risked "calling" to her.
The Slayer found her not long afterward.
Time for stealth. They worked their way back to the portal site, encountering occasional warriors, but avoiding them for the most part.
Erynne's injuries healed slowly here. She noticed that Faith was feeling it too.
They needed to find somewhere safe to dig in. After some discussion, it was agreed
that they'd fort up at the portal, both to guard and to protect the others' escape
route. Wandering all over to look for them, even with a trail to follow, was adding to
the difficulties. They'd set up defenses on both sides of the portal, including
wards.
If Sweet and the others didn't appear within a certain time, Faith would go for
reinforcements while Erynne stayed to keep watch in the other world.
Erynne growled at the idea of waiting, but for once, she needed to exercise patience.
Worried as she was.
She breathed a tiny sigh of relief as they crossed the threshold, and the sweeter air of Earth filled her lungs.
