ok. random post.
last night i was reading an article on ian curtis (i purchased several at the weekend)
and i got to thinking about the romance of dying young. when i say that i suppose i really mean killing yourself at a young age, tho the romance of suicide extends to any age i guess. look at hunter s thompson.
he was 67 but the romance and mystery still remains. he wasnt happy with the way things were going so he took control and made his own decisions. something which i think is very admirable.
back to the yung suicide. it defines you, obviosuly. it becomes the thing that makes you famous, which can be a bad thing, but almost always ends up good coz through the notoriety you achivee through suicide people begin to check out your past, out of curiosity, and so your legacy lives on. if you dont believe me look at kurt cobain, jim morrison, jimi hendrix and ian curtis to name just a few. all killed themselves young and all live on and remain cruicially influencial in today's music society. you know as well as i do that many of today's popular bands wouldnt have even been contemplated had it not been for the influence of the bands that these people were in. i'm not saying that to be influencial you have to kill yourself, far from it. i'm just saying that it helps, a lot. and if you arent gonna kill yourself coz its overrated and so final then you at least have to have some kind of addiction that drives you and defines your tortured soul.
can we think of anyone worth mention that doesnt have some kind of addiction?
do you have to be an addict to be influencial ?
