Day of the year update...

Sep 15, 2008 11:17

I am going to set myself up to find something to celebrate everyday of the year. Starting today. Why today? Well because I thought of it today. I also feel as if there are plenty of things to celebrate but unless they are popular in society people tend not to think about them. So why not have the reason to celebrate a little more?

Today is: International Day of Democracy!

Last year the United Nations declared September 15th to by International Day of Democracy.

"while democracies share common features, there is no single model of democracy and that democracy does not belong to any country or region...
democracy is a universal value based on the freely-expressed will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems, and their full participation in all aspects of life." ~preamble of resolution for the celebration of democracy.

The goal is to raise public awareness and today the IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) will be holding special events in Geneva. National parliaments are invitied to celebrate too.
So if you feel so inclined use today to celebrate democracy!
