Blah
So...Birthday yesterday was fine. Not fabulous, but fine. I was so happy to have my friends at my birthday dinner! I love them all, they made the day special.
Sooo now I'm old. Haha. Oh, well. At least at my office party, everybody said I was a baby because I was so young! Hahaha. So I felt slightly better.
I'm rediscovering how much I love Joyce Carol Oates. It's so weird how I started reading her stuff...we read the strangest short story in Short Story class my sophomore year. Then we had to pick an author and read several short stories, so I picked her because that one story we read was intriguing. Then I read Blonde, which is definitely my favorite book of all time, a fictionized biography of Marilyn Monroe. My mom bought me her anthology for my birthday- with the short story that started it all! It's called "Where are you going, Where have you been?" if anybody wants to read it. Her stuff is good...sometimes you just have to get through graphic stuff. Now I'm reading The Barrens which is really really good. With her writing...it's like...every few paragraphs or chapters there are words that just jump out and speak to me. like for example:
Another time Tess threw off Matt's hand, and cried, "I'm the woman! I'm the one who's supposed to break!..."
For some reason, small things like that just jump out. Her writing is so thoughtful and so beautiful. Especially in Blonde. There's something about that book.
Anyway! So my day today was pretty good...fun day at work, cheesecake birthday party. Then I went to lunch with Amy and her dad was so sweet and paid. and it was SO good. yum. No creepsters today! Finally...yes!!!
Something my boss wrote on my birthday card was so sweet! : "Enjoy your day and celebrate by living your dreams and following your heart today and every day of your 20th year! My best to you. It's great having you on our team." Aww. That made me happy.
And Aww...my big b just called me! Sweet!
