well, I'm back!

And did you all miss me? Did ya hell as like! I'm in a slightly odd mood, listening to Big Bill Shatner singing Common People with a large Gin Martini in hand will do this.....

Today was my first day back to work after a week in NYC. It's a very interesting place - we stayed in a great hotel - the Roosevelt. A very pleasant hotel with a good bar. Cos it wasn't all play (Ian was over there for a conference) I had the fun of being the 'other half' and fuck I do it well. I am so corporate! It was funny though watch two people who loathe one another in the same bar. Especially when one of them proceeds to get utterly slaughtered. I stuck to the G&T's - first night after flying I knew to take it easy :)

We did all the classic tourist things:

Central Park
Wall Street
Empire States Building
Staten Island Ferry
The Met

Also went to Ground Zero. It's bizarre; the Yanks really haven't recovered from this at all. Crowds still turn up and go to the little church opposite it everyday. They want a monument there, but don't know quite what....We weren't going to go, feeling that it was just going to be very morbid (and it was tbh) but NYC is one of the few cities in the US where it is possible to walk. And we did - we walked from the very tip of Manhattan up to the North of the Park. It's a great experience walking down all these famous avenues - Broadway, 5th, The Americas....I walked more than I've done for ages. It interested me how few people look up - this is something that I've noticed in London; and people miss so much!

As well as architecture of course, NYC offers shopping...I particularly recommend these two stores to you:

Century 21 - great cheap underwear (modelling provided at a convenient time and place - just ask :P)

J&R - lots of lovely geeky electronics!

American boys are still a massive disappointment. I like my boys skinny, tall and with floppy hair and the US just doesn't seem to breed these. Also, I look 'young' which is a complete cunt. Due to the oppressive nature of the US Religious Right, people are perhaps understandably about anyone who looks too young for their real age!

Did I enjoy - oh yes! I was glad to come home though :)
