So whilst I am on the topic of loved ones missed and remembered I feel I should also talk about my Grandpa. Now I lost him November 2008 after he lost his battle with Cancer. He was an intelligent, charming, loving man who could be bloody stubborn, strong willed and generally knew what he wanted in life.

He was a RAF boy from Lincoln who married his sweetheart and moved down to Kent when his job required it of him. He helped design the Channel Tunnel, designed a lighthouse, built in 1961:

Not to mention the 101 other things he designed, built and so on...

He had a passion for history, drawing and fact. Always learning new knowledge and eager to get others to do the same. He was on Time Team when they came to Smallhythe, he even built a model diarama for them! I wish he knew I was becoming a teacher as I know that he would have told the world if he could.

I always think he has the nicest eyes in photos, they always have a gentle twinkle to them, kinda like Santa does in all of the drawings you see as a child. And lets not get started on his Einstein approach to building and making things! Hehe he was terrible at modifying various things as he felt they had areas of weakness. Hell he even wrote off to a bed manufaturer to point out the flaws in the bed frame I had just built. He took pictures and informed them on how to make 'economical' but long lasting improvements. They wrote back, thanked him, sent me a new bed and made the improvements. He was always lucky like that.

He loved to go gliding, something I never wanted to try myself but I am so glad that my cousin Daniel did. He also loved model planes too, not so much when they got stuck in trees mind you!

When us grandchildren were much younger we used to love watching cartoons and movies with him. He was out BFG, our Hagrid the Horrible, the voice of the Gandalf the Grey in the Hobbit which he read to us or the ogre who chased us round the bungalow and garden at easter trying to steal our eggs.

I know Granny misses him so much and wishes that he was still here. They were such a loving couple.

I love him so very much, wish he was here to tell me to use a dictionary or ramble off some fact of the day and like my Grandad I can safely say that he was one of the most important men in my life.

My Daddy is my number one.

love, family
