What a weekend!
It started out on Friday with me getting off of work early, and going home, to be at my house by one, in time to get picked up by my sister and brother in law around 1:45 and head north to Harrisburg, PA, for my Uncle Peter’s birthday party. He is turning 50, actually, today, but had his 50th party on May 5th.
We got to Harrisburg around 4:15 or so, and visited with my Dad and Stepmother for an hour or so. Nice day, warm. I wished I had worn shorts, but could not find any that fit. Will need to go get some one of these days, since I do not know when I will fit into my old ones again.
Thankfully, no weight comments from my Dad this time around. I am always in dread expecting them, that when they do not happen, I am pleasantly surprised.
Party was fun. There was a DJ. My sister and I were there, but my brother was not, sadly, as he had to work Friday night. My Uncle Stephen was there as well, though he left early. Was really a fun party, but underscored the statement that at 50, parties end early and all your friends seem to leave before 11 PM. Was almost weird that way.
I got to try some yummy beverages, and got to sip Johnny Walker- BLUE label scotch- you know, the extremely expensive stuff they keep locked up at most liquor stores. I have never tasted a Scotch blend that was as smooth, and almost sweet going down.. It was pretty awesome. I also got to sample a single malt called Macallan, 15 year old Scotch. Talk about smooth and wonderful! The very first single malt I have ever tasted that did not make me melancholy to drink it. I really enjoyed it! In fact, so enjoyable it was that I would love to own a bottle, sometime. However, it is in the same bracket as Johnnie Walker Blue, so not sure I will be able to afford it any time soon.
I managed to stay mostly sober on Friday night by dancing and drinking lots of water, in between each beer, and any other drink. I also made sure I had plenty of food. Seems at times like that, carbs are important.
We got back to my Dad’s around 11:30, and I went to bed. Slept pretty well, except for a bout with agita around 3 AM. Luckily, I had Pepcid in my purse, and once I took that, stomach calmed right down.
Saturday, we took the tour of my parents’ yard, to see all the trees that have grown a lot since last I was there, and the flowering plants and shrubs that make my Dad’s place a beautiful place to be. He has 1 acres, and it is just palatial to walk around and see the job he has done on the yard.
Around noon, we headed south, back to VA, which I was glad to have done, since I had yet another birthday party Saturday afternoon and evening…. My friend Carol turned 40, and rented out the Moose Lodge for a party, at which Tom Principato performed. Good guitarist and vocalist, doing mostly blues and older classic rock stuff, a lot of his own original material. Cash bar, and I tried to exercise the same water between beers principal that had served well the night before. Subway sub to eat, and chips and pretzels. Watched the Kentucky Derby at the party, and chatted with other guests, but at 7 PM it was done, and we went back to their place for more drinking and carrying on. I was not as well behaved Saturday night as the previous night, finding myself in a position of not being able to drive home. P probably should not have either, but did, since he was the most sober of the two of us.
Somehow, I woke up when I got home, more, and decided it was time to be frisky. P did not mind, and it turned out to be a great evening for us…. (big smile).
Sunday, for some inexplicable reason, we both woke up early (after being up till nearly 4) and had breakfast on the deck. Then we got ready to go to Home Depot and pick up the appliances, of which I have already written in a previous post…
We did the thing with the appliances, AND tried to fix my old antique dining room table that was so loose and wobbly it was ready to fall over. Managed to get it to stay up better, but not in a whole lot better shape over all. At least I found out who originally made it. The Hanover Cabinet Company, in Hanover, PA, around 1926.
I am hoping that taking that information online, I might be able to find a key to my china cabinet and sideboard, as both are full of stuff and locked, and the key was lost a couple of years ago, thus I am unable to use the stuff in the cabinets. People keep telling me to get a locksmith, or to at least find out who manufactured the furniture, and maybe I can find a replacement key. It is so aggravating, and I tried to buy a lot of keys on eBay that I thought would fit, and they were all too small. Anyone want to buy 10 antique barrel keys that don’t fit?? I am seriously considering turning around and reselling them again on eBay, in hopes of getting some of my money back.
Anyway, we did what we could with the table, and turned it back over. A little tighter fit in the dining room now that the two appliances are also in there, but still okay for the most part. I really do want to start actually USING the dining room, I really do.
So, after two parties, moving appliances, and even working in the yard, we rested the rest of the day, just in time to come back to work tired again today. I should work out tonight, but given that my body has decided it is time for that lovely thing that happens every month, that always makes me feel like crap the first two days, I am not going to. By tomorrow, I should feel better okay enough to do so, and the rest of the week, I need to get at least 4 times to the gym in, 5 if I can. Need to do it. Got to do it. Only way I am EVER going to get this weight off…..
Well, so much for the weekend update, and all that goes with it. More later….
