I just found out that our "new" pastor (okay, he's been there for like 18 months, and I've gone to all of 4 services) is refusing to confirm Jayna because she's a girl scout. Apparently our section of the church (there are two kinds, my kind - which is strict, and dave's kind - which is not strict) frowns upon girl scouts, which is the first I've heard of this in the 22 years I've gone to this church. I guess girl scouts "encourages" homosexuality and atheism, which is also the first time I've heard of this. But overall, I guess that having an organization that accepts girls of every race, sexual orientation, religion and encourages them to become strong, independent women (or in our case, avid dinner-and-a-movie goers) is a bad thing.
needless to say, we're finding a new Lutheran church. Hopefully one where the pastor: doesn't expect all men to wear coats and ties and all women to wear dresses to church; doesn't have a stepford wife; and isn't against girl scouts.
