It's not even going to be a "real" post, sorry. I decided I might as well do one of those lame year-end surveys, because I came home wanting to nap, but Time Warner Cable workmen have invaded my apartment with their loud tools and walkie talkies. I also would like a shower, but there's no way in heck I'm going to shower while they're here. Creepy.
On to the survey.
In 2006 did you:
1. go to a party?: yes, who didn't?
2. try something new?: yup -- kayaking and sushi are the ones I'm really thinking of...I also tried that whole graduating from college and entering the real world thing
3. have someone change your life?: hmm, yes. I think everyone has an effect on everyone else to some extent or another.
4. kiss someone?: did a middle schooler write this?
5. tell your family and friends you love them?: all the time
6. buy something extravagant?: probably not. I'm poor.
7. had someone else do something nice for you?: all time time. Kindness is infectious and awesome!
8. do something terribly wrong?: Did I do something wrong in a terrible way? pfft, this question stinks anyway (I like my answer from 2005, it's the same heh)
9. move?: yes, once, and I've vowed not to move agian until I get married if at all possible. Moving is the devil.
10. go to a concert?: seeing as how I live in the live music capitol of the world, yes...as for ticketed shows, though, I know I went to Jars of Clay and Dave Matthews Band, but I can't remember what else
best of the year:
1. party: I had a lot of fun at several game nights, but nothing really stands out in my mind right now.
2. show: I can't pick just one, and I don't even watch much tv! Let's see...24, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, The Office...I was into Entourage for awhile, but that only lastd a week or two.
3. cd: no idea, probably one I burned...
4. movie: I.really.don't.know. Curious George? if I can't be serious, I'll settle for that
5. song: I can't pick
6. experience: 2 things -- being at the Rose Bowl when we won the National Championship as well as learning way more about myself outside of college than I ever learned in college
7. purchase: food...it's important
8. book: either The Kite Runner or The Time Traveler's Wife
9. month: There was something to look forward to each month, so (yet again) I can't pick.
10. day: I think I'll quote Sarah's answer (from 2005...) "really? there were 365. i'm supposed to pick? what if i pick one and then tomorrow's better? what do i do then? i'm not coming back to edit this."
worst of the year:
1. party: I have a horrible memory. I don't know. Probably the one I had to work at for one of my jobs where I spent part of it in tears.
2. show: I don't watch bad TV...oh wait, there was that one time where I watched an hour of public access programming and some guy named Joe tried to convince me that the Ice Age never happened and the world expanded to break up pangea instead of continental drift. (Yes, I left that answer from 2005 as well because it was awesome)
3. cd: if it was bad, why would I have bought it?
4. movie: Songs of a Summer Night or something like that -- it's an old Swedish film by Ingmar Bergman
5. song: well I don't listen to 96.7 much anymore, but I'm sure something on there (or many things on there) qualify
6. experience: working for Hempstead & Associates...jamming pencil lead up my fingernails would have been better
7. purchase: leasing from the apartment I lived in last spring
8. book: Digital Fortress by Dan Brown is highly predictable and corny. That was also my answer for last year, but I finished it shortly after the new year this year, so I suppose I can still use it.
9. month: I can't really say that a whole month was bad. I had some bad moments in early April and late May, though.
10. day: worst day? hmm right now I'm still thinking early-mid April
hopes for 2007
1. predict something that you think will happen in 2007?: Last year I predicted that I would go to Norway. I didn't make it there, so I don't think I make very accurate predictions. How about I predict that I will brush my teeth a lot? I think that's a safe bet.
2. what do you hope changes about your country?: I prefer to steer clear of political matters when I'm tired, so uhhh skip
3. what do you hope for yourself?: to get into grad school at UT for the fall
4. what do you hope for your family?:
Mom and Dad - for my dad to take my mom out more
Stephanie - relaxation
David - also, relaxation...and an improvement in his eyes. another job offer would be good too.
Emma - to be taught that the world does not stop for her, even though I love her to pieces
Jimmy - a happy healthy baby Julia and wife
Molly - a happy healthy baby Julia
Will - to stay healthy and learn lots of new things like talking
Andrew - the ability to prioritize
5. what do you hope for your best friends?: happiness in the darkest of days, love, peace and health (I wrote that last year and think it's decent. I think I'll keep it around.)
during 2006:
1. where were you when it began?: in San Antonio with the fam...it was foggy and we couldn't see the fireworks. It looked like we were getting bombed instead of celebrating a new year.
2. did you stay up?: I don't remember when I went to sleep, but I was up past midnight.
3. what was your new year wish?: wish? since when do people make New Years wishes? I guess I got left out of that one. I resolved to read 3 books a month. I think I only read 6 or 7 all year. Oops.
4. how many boyfriends/girlfriends?: hmm well that's odd. Technically 3, but one lasted 6 or 7 days into 2006 and one is just starting I guess...hmm. I'd rather just answer 1, because 3 sounds so bad.
5. broke up?: yup, twice
6. have any crushes?: naaaaaah
7. care to mention names?: again, did a middle schooler write this?
*sidenote* they're sawing a hole in my wall! yikes!
8. new friends?: of course...mainly from my CG sooo Summer, Lindz, Dallas, Jim, James, Hunter, Shaun, DAVID PAGE!, Jessica, Santosh, Tim, Sterling...the list could go on forever
9. had to say goodbye?: yes but there were hellos again
10. missed anyone?: the other half of the collective unit...she and I will be reunited soon, though (wow that WAS my answer last year and it totally applies now too. We will hpoefully see each other on Saturday for the first time since her birthday!)
11. win anything?: can you win jobs? if so, then yes...I "won" several crappy jobs
12. best place you went to?: I travelled a lot. DC was the best, but LA and NYC had their perks. Oooh I went to cities that all have abbreviations. Neato. Oh yeah, I also went to a Celtic festival -- that was fun and new.
13. worst place you went to?: probably somewhere that smelled like fish. I do NOT like the smell of fish. So perhaps the fish section of any local grocery store could apply for this answer.
14. happiest moment?: there are many...seeing Emma and Will smile really lights up my day
15. how was your birthday?: great -- I was happy so many people came out to Trudy's, but it was hard to talk to everyone since we had to spread out over a couple tables.
16. best present?: I don't know, but I just got a really sweet tuner.
I decided I also like the survey Julia did, so since I still have time to kill, here I go...
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
ate sushi, kayaked, went to LA, went to DC and NYC, saw a Broadway show in NYC, rode a train from DC to NYC (I'd ridden one before, but this was slightly cooler), wandered around Manhattan alone...I'm sure there are others
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
As I said above, I was planning on reading 3 books a month. I did not do that. Will I make more resolutions for next year? I haven't decided. Probably not...month to month is better.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I was supposed to go skiing in Keystone, but the blizzard had other plans. We ended up having to cancel our reservations, because we couldn't get to Colorado. Christmas Eve we went to my sister's in-law's house to hang out with their family. On Christmas Day, it was just my parents, my little brother and me. We woke up and Santa came (! heh), we had breakfast with the traditional grapefruit appetizer, opened presents, watched a movie...I passed out on the couch for awhile, played some Sudoku, played Outburst, ate a big dinner, watched It's a Wonderful Life. It was a pretty typical Christmas -- we were just missing half the fam.
21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2006?

one was the ability to be financially independent
29. What did you want and not get?

34. What kept you sane?
I don't think I'm sane
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't know but Kiera Knightly pre-deathly skinny days was pretty hot. I think she got this skinny in 2006 though. Sad.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
As I said before, no political issues. Thanks.
37. Who did you miss?
All my friends outside of Austin...and one in Austin - Helen!!
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I cannot possibly pick just one.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
something along the lines of finding out who you really are...I'm too tired to make it sound good.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Normally, I would jump at this, but as has been the trend for this post, I am drawing a complete blank. I'll think about it though. For the first half of the year, I'd say this fit: And it's so hard to do and so easy to say. But sometimes - sometimes, you just have to walk away - walk away, but that definitely doesn't sum up all of my year.
That surey truly was lame. I apologize. However, the TWC dude has now worked on 3 out of the 4 bedrooms (I think), and he's currently drilling in mine. I hope they finish soon.
Apparently they just drilled a hole in the wrong part of my room and I am quite pissed off. I need to go somewhere else so I don't kill any of the guys who are just trying to do their job. I reaaaaally need a shower before I grace the world with my presence though. Suck.
I just heard the workman dude go "uh oh." That does NOT sit well with me.
