Thursday night I headed over to
gothic_ham's place to finalize our Anime Boston talk. Things were looking pretty good, so it wasn't a big deal :D We ended up heading to the Bukowski's in Inman Square with some of his friends from Miami, Helena and Natalie. I do love the food at Bukowski's, I had sweet potato fries, and Dan got the white trash cheese dip for the table, so it was pretty heavenly! Of course, we ended up running late because Bukowski's was way packed, so H+N couldn't make it to their evening plans, but they're on vacation so it was not a big deal. We ended up hanging at Dan's place watching Daft Punk's Electroma and enjoying some vinho verde!
Friday it took me forever to pack my stuff for Easter in Connecticut. Ross and I had a quick trip to Target to buy Easter candy for my sister and her housemates. It's a lot of fun buying candy. Reese's peanut butter eggs... so good...
Anyway, I made it to Anime Boston around 1, and let me tell you it was a madhouse. The convention center was crazy packed. Just walking to the check-in desk at the Sheraton was pretty intense. The food court was just full of people in costume. I think a higher percentage of con-goers were in costume for a Friday than at the early Anime Bostons. There were a lot of good costumes, and a lot of group costumes, and about a million ones I didn't recognize. Like, some of the most popular costumes were obviously uniforms from some series... I am so out of it! Lots of classic game costumes, luckily... many Final Fantasies, VII being the most popular, Pokemon, including a whole family, two adults, two kids, as Team Rocket, full fur-suited Pokemon, and several "sexy Pikachus", many Kingdom Hearts costumes, including Heartless, so many more. Pyramidhead from Silent Hill, one of the robots of Daft Punk, several Na'vi, including one guy who was done up in full body paint and with all the Jake Sully accessories, incredibly well done but terrifying. Lots of goth wear, from basic Hot Topic to home-made EGL. Anyway, Dan and I gave our talk, "Adding Up Anime: Science!", which got a pretty good reception. Dan said he thought the talk went over well, I have no good basis to tell :D We wandered around, met up with Emily, and eventually went to the Video Game Orchestra concert, which, in my opinion, was rockin'. I wish I could have stayed for more of that! The show was supposedly going on till 10 pm, I think I could actually have sat through 3 hours gladly. But Ross and I had to head off to Connecticut...
Luckily there was no traffic, but we got into Farmington pretty late just the same. A quick soup dinner and early to bed for us.
Saturday we ran all the errands for Easter. We picked up lots of food, did a little prep work, and relaxed. We played Hand and Foot. Dawn got in pretty late. Her car battery died, so she took a chance, got a jump from AAA, and just drove down in the hopes of getting it fixed in CT. Ross and Mark delivered, at least! Let's just say it's a good thing that Walmart is open every day!
So we dyed eggs in the evening, which is always fun. I baked lemon squares, and Dawn baked choco-chip cookies with crasins and walnuts. And we went to bed early again! Yay!
(Let me just mention that I was totally mentally busy this weekend thinking about The World Ends With You. I know, it's old, but I am just getting to the end of it... I bought a player pin at Anime Boston... I am so behind in video game land.)
We fussed over all the appetizers Easter morning. There may have been way too many appetizers, between all the chip, veggies, and dip type stuff, the sausage and cheeses, and the hot pastry appetizers. And then we had to sit down and have more food! Roasted brussel sprouts and the cous cous salad were probably my favorite part of that. And, we had ice-cream cake after all that, to boot. Ulf. After everyone else went home, we sat on the deck and enjoyed the nice weather, relaxing. I'm lucky that Ross did the driving home!
Yesterday not too much happened, though Ross did manage to sell some of his audio equipment! Yay! I made the leftover eggs into deviled eggs, yummy.
Today and yesterday I made it to the pool, which was good. Swimming along...
