Not just your ordinary jam band...
Everyone should listen to Dispatch. End of Story. Hands down one of the best "collegy rock" bands out there. Similar to Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, and Ben Harper but they mix in reggae, funk, and are completely acoustic. Not only do they sound great, but the lyrics have content(!!!)They actually adress social issues, like violence, bums, etc. unlike most bands these days talking about a) bitches b) blunts c) 40's d) or lack thereof. Even more, it's only three guys playing all the instruments and singing and there is not "frontman;" all three can play and sing equally, or so they say.
I wish I was a more musical person. I'm envious of those who started playing at an early age because it sheds a whole new light on life. Everyone who was forced into it at an early age doesn't regret it now even though as a child they hated practicing. Maybe I'll really pick up the guitar for myself, not for a guy. I've learned (the hard way, several times in fact) that it's no use to try to impress; people will eventually see through it at some point. And the longer you keep up the facade, the more time you have wasted. Our pathetic lives are not long enough to sit around and scratch our asses. It can be taken from us at any momment-- in a car accident, earthquake, murder, or one morning we will never wake up. Regardless, it infuriates me when people talk but do not follow through with action. See:
