i survived the essay. i survived the exam. i am one take-home exam away from being finished my degree in less than a day, i will be Stephanie Rudolph, B.A.
i can't get over it. did four years pass by already? where on earth did the time go, and how come there's no more of it? sitting in the rose garden at Glendon today with Danilo after our German History exam, i realised that exactly two years ago was our legendary weekend away in Oshawa. in just a couple days, the four of us built so many wonderful memories and inside jokes and took some pretty wicked photos. and for Danilo and i, not that the other two knew, it was basically the beginning of the end, eek. TWO YEARS. i remember moving-out day from first year too, saying goodbye to Geoff and Greg. i wrote them each cards, telling them how much i loved having them as neighbours and how i wished them all the luck. and now? it's my turn to graduate.
the essay i'm just glad to have done. i think it was pretty good, considering i wrote over five and a half thousand words in less than 15 hours. the German History exam was a pleasant surprise. don't get me wrong, i wrote nonstop and my memory was quite challenged but... it went much better than i could have hoped. i got to write about the 1848 March Reovlution, Weimar Culture, and the political system of the two Germanys. oh, and do a map test, eep. it was sad to see Bargain go. he shook my hand, and wished me all the best in England. i whispered to him that he was a much better professor than he probably thinks he was. he is quite endearing. even today, haha, you could tell he's such a newbie! he was handing out our exams in the big ol' lecture hall, when he realised he hadn't photocopied enough maps. kind of pauses, looks around, has this "oh shit" moment, and then tells us, "Okay, guys. Nobody peek. I'll be back" and then runs out of the room to make more copies! "Sorry," he says upon returning, "Someone must've broken into my office and stole some exams." right! and that doesn't concern you? nah, he's quite brilliant. i just know that he's going to be a genius historian.
Danilo and i ate lunch outside. they're filming something at Glendon, around the manor. there were big trucks there with lighting and film equipment. they'd erected a fancy sign that said "Vanderbilt Academy" and put up these false stone engravings that said "Vanderbilt" too. they brought some fake trees and flowers (Glendon's pretty, but not in full bloom yet) and there was a flagpole with a giant American flag. lots of actors and extras milling about in prep school uniforms as well. guess we'll see one day what it was! i know they've filmed a lot at Glendon, like American Psycho, Degrassi, and The Time-Traveler's Wife. it is a conveniently beautiful place.
this evening, i took it easy. Skyped Chris, thankfully Adri's laptop didn't crash, haha. I MISS MY LAPTOP! took a bit of a nap, accidentally. ate some yummy dinner, and watched HIMYM. later in the evening, Adri and i watched Mona Lisa Smile. it is better than i remembered. and now? sleeeeeeeeeeep. oh precious sleep.
