Good Will Hunting
Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Afleck
1997     4/5  -just wonderful

A touching tale of a wayward young man who struggles to find his identity, living in a world where he can solve any problem, except the one brewing deep within himself, until one day he meets his soul mate who opens his mind and his heart.
--------
I really liked this movie, and Will was such a great character!

The Shop Around the Corner
Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, Frank Morgan
1940    2/5 -nothing special

In Budapest, Hungary, the Matuschek and Company store is owned by Mr. Hugo Matuschek and the bachelor Alfred Kralik is his best and most experienced salesman. When Klara Novak seeks a job position of saleswoman in the store, Matuschek hires her but Kralik and she do not tolerate each other. Meanwhile the lonely and dedicated Kralik has an unknown pen pal that he intends to propose very soon; however, he is fired without explanation by Matuschek in the night that he is going to meet his secret love. He goes to the bar where they have scheduled their meeting with his colleague Pirovitch and he surprisingly finds that Klara is his correspondent; however, ashamed with the unemployment, he does not disclose his identity to her. When Matuschek discovers that he had misjudged Kralik and committed a mistake, he hires him again for the position of manager. But Klara is still fascinated with her future fiancé and does not pay much attention to Kralik.
-------
I liked the storyline a whole lot. That being said, I'm really glad they remade it. I didn't feel this movie, and I didn't really think that characters or actors had any chemistry. Although James Stewart is fabulous! I thought both remakes were better.

Surrogates
Bruce Willis, Rosamund Pike, Radha Mitchell
2009    2/5 -nothing special

People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates -- sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It's an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don't exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery.
--------
This is a very interesting premise, but it just didn't hold my attention.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, Leslie Mann
2009    2/5 -nothing special

Steven Russell is happily married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force when a car accident provokes a dramatic reassessment of his life. Steven becomes open about his homosexuality and decides to live life to the fullest - even if it means breaking the law. Steven's new, extravagant lifestyle involves cons and fraud and, eventually, a stay in the State Penitentiary where he meets sensitive, soft-spoken Phillip Morris. His devotion to freeing Phillip from jail and building the perfect life together prompts Steven to attempt and often succeed at one impossible con after another.
--------
It was entertaining at times, and oh how I love Ewan McGregor, but overall the movie was just blah.

Summertime
Katharine Hepburn, Rossana Brazzi, Isa Miranda
1955    1/5 -bad

Jane Hudson, a jaunty as well as attractive middle-aged secretary from Akron, Ohio, has finally made it to Venice, Italy, for her long-awaited dream vacation. Never-married Jane is a self-described "independent type" who's content, or so she claims, to go it mostly alone, armed with her movie camera. Jane soon discovers that even in a city as beautiful and fascinating as Venice, going it alone can still leave one feeling terribly lonely. All that is about to change, starting with a brief encounter at an outdoor café in the Piazza San Marco, where Jane draws the attention of a handsome antiques-shop owner named Renato de Rossi.
--------
I liked it at first, but it took a turn that I did not see coming and did not like.

The Lake House
Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Dylan Walsh
2006    1/5 -bad

When two people "connect" the bond between them can be so pure and simple as to stir hearts in heaven. When they connect in all the right places at all the wrong times, heaven weeps for broken hearts. To heal these broken hearts, heaven breaks time.
--------
I can't. This was so bad I don't even know what to say. There was no dialogue in this movie, no chemistry, nothing made sense, and it was confusing. I'm disappointed in Sandra Bullock.

Just Visiting
Jean Reno, Christina Applegate, Christian Clavier
2001    1/5 -bad

A knight and his valet are plagued by a witch, and to repair the damage they make use of the services of a wizard. However, something goes wrong and they are transported from the 12th century to the year 2000. There the knight meets some of his family and slowly learns what this new century is like. However, he still needs to get back to the 12th century to deal with the witch, so he starts looking for a wizard.
--------
There wasn't anything good about this movie.

Three Coins in the Fountain
Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters, Maggie McNamara
1954    1/5 -bad

American girls dream of finding romance in Rome, but there is none for secretaries, Anita tells her replacement at the USDA. But Maria soon meets Prince Dino de Cessi at a party at her boss's home who invites her to fly to Venice in his private plane. Frances, who has been in Rome for 15 years as the secretary of a successful American writer who talks a lot like George Bernard Shaw and is just as elusive as Professor Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady," tells her at first to say "no" and then decides that together they can handle the man nicknamed the predatory prince. Coins tossed in the Trevi Fountain can indeed work magic.
--------
I liked one of the love stories, but not enough to like this movie.
