Catfish
2010     3/5 - I liked it

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel's brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

--------
When I say that I liked it, I mean I'm into Catfish right now. I'm not saying that it's a great movie or anything. I think Nev has a tramp stamp.

Expecting Mary
2010     2/5 - nothing special
Olesya Rulin, Linda Gray, Cybill Shephard

Expecting Mary is the story of a young girl, who's had all the trappings of an upscale life, but it's only when she finds herself in a small New Mexico town, in a downtrodden trailer park, that she learns the real meaning of love, sacrifice and family.

Blonde Ambition
2007     3/5 - I liked it
Jessica Simpson, Luke Wilson, Racheal Leigh Cook

A young professional woman unwittingly becomes the pawn of two business executives in their bid to oust the head of a mega-conglomerate.

--------
It was pretty cute. I can't believe I'm even saying this about a movie starring Jessica Simpson and Andy Dick, but I laughed out loud quite a few times.

Mildred Pierce
1945     2/5 - nothing special
Joan Crawford, Jack Carson, Ann Blyth

After her cheating husband leaves her, Mildred Pierce proves she can become independent and successful, but can't win the approval of her spoiled daughter.

--------
Spoiled daughter? More like bitch daughter.

My Fair Lady
1964     2/5 - nothing special
Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway

Gloriously witty adaptation of the Broadway musical about Professor Henry Higgins, who takes a bet from Colonel Pickering that he can transform unrefined, dirty Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady, and fool everyone into thinking she really is one, too! He does, and thus young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford-Hill falls madly in love with her. But when Higgins takes all the credit and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy, and suddenly Higgins realizes he's grown accustomed to her face and can't really live without it.

--------
That ending was terrible! Am I the only one who doesn't want to watch a movie where one of the main characters is an asshole?

Splendor in the Grass
1961     2/5 - nothing special
Natalie Wood, Warren Beatty, Barbara Loden

A fragile Kansas girl's unrequited and forbidden love for a handsome young man from the town's most powerful family drives her to heartbreak and madness.

--------
That is obssesion, not love.

Love in the Afternoon
1957     2/5 - nothing special
Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn, Maurice Chevalier

In Paris, detective Claude Chavasse is hired to follow a wife suspected of infidelity with the notorious American libertine Frank Flannagan. When the husband learns that his suspicions are accurate, he tells Claude of his plan to kill Flannagan. Claude's daughter Ariane overhears the threat and warns Frank of the coming trouble. She then plays the part of a worldly socialite with a list of conquests as long as Flannagan's. The bemused ladies' man returns to America the next day and Ariane, completely in love, follows his romantic escapades in the news. She sees him again in Paris the following year, and resumes her worldly guise, telling tales of former lovers when they meet at his hotel in the afternoon. Frank, amazed by the mystery girl and surprised to find himself jealous of her past, hires Claude to uncover more information about her. When the detective realizes what has happened, he asks Frank not to break his daughter's heart.

--------
I didn't like it all that much, but I did like that she was a positive romantic person even though she was surrounded with so much cynicism.

Ruby Sparks
2012     2/5 - nothing special
Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Chris Messina

Calvin is a genius novelist who begins to type a new novel on his manual typewriter about Ruby, his dream girl. He can't believe his eyes, because the next day, Ruby becomes a real person, and they begin to have a beautiful relationship together. If the relationship isn't perfect, all Calvin has to do is simply type the words on the page and Ruby's actions change to what he needs.

--------
It was a cute movie, a real good concept I thought. That being said, I was expecting this sweet little love story, but it went somewhere dark and twisted.

Titanic
1953     2/5 - nothing special
Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck, Audrey Dalton

Unhappily married and uncomfortable with life among the British upper crust, Julia Sturges takes her two children and boards the Titanic for America. Her husband Richard also arranges passage on the doomed luxury liner in order to let him have custody of their two children. Their problems soon seem minor when the ship hits an iceberg.

--------
I thought the movie showed everything much calmer and everyone more heroic than what actually happened.

Albert Nobbs
2011     2/5 - nothing special
Glenn Close, Mia Wasikowska, Janet McTeer

Albert Nobbs struggles to survive in late 19th century Ireland, where women aren't encouraged to be independent. Posing as a man, so she can work as a butler in Dublin's most posh hotel, Albert meets a handsome painter and looks to escape the lie she has been living.

--------
I was a little confused, they weren't gay or transgender were they?

Quest for Camelot
1998     2/5 - nothing special

An adventurous girl, a young blind hermit and a goofy two headed dragon race to find the lost sword Excalibur to save King Arthur and Camelot from disaster.

--------
I liked the search for the sword and the dragon(s), I didn't really feel scared of the bad guy. That's kind of an essential thing in an animated movie.

Beautiful Boy
2010     2/5 - nothing special
Maria Bello, Michael Sheen, Alan, Tudyk

Bill and Kate are in an emotionless marriage with their only son away at college. They knew he didn't sound happy but then comes the news that he was the mass murderer at his school killing 17 professors, fellow students and himself. They try to move on with their lives but they are held back by their own grief and the fact that the media and everyone around them view them as monsters. The more they fight it, they realize they only have each other.

--------
It definitely had it's moments, but it just seemed to drag on and on.

The American President
1995     3/5 - I liked it
Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen

Andrew Shepherd is approaching the end of his first term as President of the United States. He's a widower with a young daughter and has proved to be popular with the public. His election seems assured. That is until he meets Sydney Ellen Wade, a paid political activist working for an environmental lobby group. He's immediately smitten with her and after several amusing attempts, they finally manage to go on a date (which happens to be a State dinner for the visiting President of France). His relationship with Wade opens the door for his prime political opponent, Senator Bob Rumson, to launch an attack on the President's character, something he could not do in the previous election as Shepherd's wife had only recently died.

--------
I really did like this. It was this great, kind of magical twist on a typical romcom. Plus it was written by Aaron Sorkin, so it felt very much like The West Wing. 0Including Martin Sheen. And the added bonus of Michael J. Fox.

We're Not Married
1952     2/5 - nothing special
Ginger Rogers, Marilyn Monroe, Zsa Zsa Gabor

In separate stories, five wedded couples learn that they are not legally married.

--------
What a depressing little movie.

Charade
1963     3/5 - I liked it
Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau

Regina is about to divorce her husband when she finds that he has been murdered after converting every penny they owned to cash, which is also missing. She meets Cary Grant who changes his name every 15 minutes or so and is interested in her husband's money, which seems to have come from a WWII payroll he stole. His partners in crime are also very interested in where the money is, as he stole it from them as well. Everyone assumes Regina MUST know where the money is. The situation becomes more tense when the searchers begin turning up dead.

--------
I liked the twist and turns in this movie. I honestly didn't know if Joshua was a good guy or a bad guy.

Casablanca
1942     1/5 - didn't like it
Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid

In World War II Casablanca, Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightspot in town. The cynical lone wolf Blaine comes into the possession of two valuable letters of transit. When Nazi Major Strasser arrives in Casablanca, the sycophantic police Captain Renault does what he can to please him, including detaining a Czechoslovak underground leader Victor Laszlo. Much to Rick's surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick's one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. Well, that was their original plan....

--------
I thought this movie was very over-rated! Humphrey Bogart wass very good, though.
