Top five books you never would have picked up if it weren't for the encouragement of others.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer :: I was never a reader, but when I was just looking through lj I saw this really pretty icon; it was of this pretty girl (who I now know was Kristen Stewart) and it said "What a stupid lamb". I don't really know why it sparked my interest, but I googled the lamb thing and Twilight popped right up. So I got the book from the library, it was the first time in ages that I recreationaly read a book, but I couldn't put it down. And I actually remember the experience. It was a Thursday, and my brother came over to watch The Office so I reluctantly stopped reading. The next day I went out with my mom and grandma, just shopping and lunch and whatever, and I was lugging along this big book everywhere. When we ended up back at Grandma's, I went out to the porch and started reading right away. When my dad got off of work and came over, the three adults came out on the porch, but I just kept reading. I was reading the meddow scene and I just knew I had this enormous, stupid grin on my face and I could feel them watching me. So to save myself from further humiliation, I put the book down. (After that chapter.)

Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen :: My aunt reccomended this book to me. I don't usually stray from YA, but this book started being passed around my family. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins :: This wasn't really something I was looking for, all the violence and what not, but it was getting rave reviews, so I picked it up.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman :: I don't know what it was that drove me away from this book, maybe Catherine Hardwick's  excitement about it.lol. I don't even really remember exactlyh why I changed my mind. Most likely GoodReads friends.0

City of Bones (Mortal Instruments 1) by Cassandra Clare :: Nicole ( glowingsilver ) told me to read this book. We have pretty similiar taste in books. She told me about The Hollow and I told her about Night World, she told me I had to read this one. And it drastically moved up on my tbr list when the movie was announced.

Day 02 - A book that you’ve read more than 3 times

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman

Whether deconstructing Saved by the Bell episodes or the artistic legacy of Billy Joel, the symbolic importance of The Empire Strikes Back or the Celtics/Lakers rivalry, Chuck will make you think, he'll make you laugh, and he'll drive you insane -- usually all at once. Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs is ostensibly about art, entertainment, infotainment, sports, politics, and kittens, but -- really -- it's about us. All of us. As Klosterman realizes late at night, in the moment before he falls asleep, "In and of itself, nothing really matters. What matters is that nothing is ever 'in and of itself.'" Read to believe

------------

This is a book of essays that are both hilarious and thought provoking.

It amazes me that Klosterman has the ability to take subject matters like breakfast cereal cartoons and and transform that into "what kind of cool you are."

Essays include topics on;
fake love, Saved by the Bell, The Sims, Billy Joel, porn, Star Wars, born-agains, The Dixie Chicks, serial killers, The Real World, and more.

With incredible interludes added that includes a haunting paragraph about Timothy McVeigh and The Oklahoma City Bombing, and an outstanding paragraph about Johnny Cash

books: chuck klosterman, surveys and challenges, friday five, twilight
