Dinah had sent Raven a text that she'd be on-campus this afternoon, and was hanging out waiting for her first class of the semester to start ("Political Terrorism: What We've Learned Since No Man's Land").

Hmm, another global text:

Add/Drop 'A History of Vigilantes' ? Depressing, uplifting? Or add 'Prisons and Asylums: Where Arkham is Failing'?

And a timely text that was -- it served as the perfect reminder that Priestly was being terribly neglectful of keeping his BFF up-to-date.

But, well, that's what happened when someone suddenly handed you a restaurant.

Either way, Dinah's phone was a-ringing away.

"Dinah Lance, not free-lance! What's doing, Sous?"

"Personally, I think your whole curriculum needs far more useful things like nutrition and not burning your new apartment down with the stove, but that's just me. I vote History of Vigilantism." Because answering her actual text was of vital importance. "Aaaaaaaaaaand guess where I am?"

"Please don't say some airport in Asia again," Dinah pouted. "The only good thing about that was the glass noodles. You didn't even meet a yak. And yeah, it's not cheating for me to take it? Although, I guess most vigilantes are less with the targeted mob members and more about the random violence..."

"Cheating at what? I'm pretty sure in your line of work you get to take all the advantages you can get. Also, I haven't met a yak yet." Priestly took a deep breath. "I'm in Fandom!"

To anyone but Dinah, that probably sounded actually cheerful.

And a lot of that was because she knew the back-story.

"..." Dinah took a moment. "Yay? Um. Yay! Did you get your job at the diner back?" Then a pause. "So, uh, how'd everyone at the Grill take the move?"

"Believe it or not, they told me to come. Yesterday. While handing me portal tickets for this morning." His friends were the best. Really. "Apparently, they think I'll deal better with everything if I'm somewhere where people's first reaction isn't to put me in an institution. Which admittedly is kind of what I was thinking, too, so . . . yeah." What was her other question? "And I guess you could say I got my job at the diner back? Except for how it's a cafe, now? And I seem to be the manager."

He had keys and Excel spreadsheets and everything.

Dinah winced at that, thinking of Tish and sticking out her tongue in memory. "Awww, they rock. I'm glad they're being all supportive..."

Waitaminute.

"You're what now?" Wasn't this the path to evil reality shows?!

Only in LA. "Yeah, I showed up and this guy Vincent showed me the world's most amazing freezer and then said he might have a job for me if I cooked him something and I did and then he handed me the keys and pulled a suitcase out of, like, nowhere, which why was he already packed? and told me not to blow it up again." Priestly held up a finger. "Which mind you, I have never blown up any restaurants, so I don't know where he got the 'again' part from."

"This does not bode well. This is a situation that makes me say 'bode'! Holy crap, Priestly, what-- how--" Yeah, Dinah was flailing. "Freezer?!" Give her a minute to catch up here.

"What does 'bode' actually mean?" Priestly wondered. "And yeah, dude, this freezer's like a portal to another universe. Another universe full of every ingredient known to man and several that aren't. It's powered by a nuclear reactor and there's a tram in it."

He was totally in love with that freezer, yes.

"Tram?" Okay, that was an interesting mental image. "Wow. That's... yeah, that's Fandom. You could make anything if they're going to bring it in on a tram-- wait. He says blowing up, and then he leaves? What kind of person does that?"

Well, someone who lived in Fandom. Naturally.

"He said not to touch the nuclear reactor. So I'm going to do a whole lot of not touching the nuclear reactor and hope that works."

"Good plan," Dinah said fervently. Then wondered, "Do we know anyone who knows anything about those things?" Why did they have these gaps in their Rolodex? "Are you okay?"

"I'm considering doing, like, a correspondence course in how to figure out employee payroll, but yeah, right now I'm fine." That might be the shock. "I mean, Fandom does stuff, right? And sometimes it's good stuff, so maybe this is that kind of stuff?"

Dinah made a non-verbal noise of I dunno, sure, could be? Then considered a bit more, and started to grin. "Hey, are the people you used to work with who put orders in your hair still working there? Are you the boss of them?"
