The Clocktower, New Gotham, Wednesday

So the Impromptu Party was arranged with treats from Alfred (cookies and fudge and some candied fruit) and a cake that Dinah had picked up at the bakery, plus champagne.

Really, she and Priestly just felt like hosting a party. Yup. No other reason.

Momoko was nibbling a rather large piece of fudge while loading up a small plate with the cake and cookies. And more fudge.

...

Look. Jaime didn't make fudge, Momoko didn't know how, and store-bought fudge tasted so, well, weird and grainy and flat! Ew.

"Hmm. Champagne..." Momoko considered her history with alcohol and New Gotham. "Or make the trip home again without punching people?"

"Um. Well, it'd be nice to skip punching people," Priestly said, suddenly having visions of a really . . . energetic reaction to their news. "Champagne makes you punch people?"

"Alcohol at all. A couple of drinks and I apparently go crazy." Momoko grinned. "You don't remember getting random calls from me and Dinah when we have been out drinking? I can't believe you haven't seen the videos Ms Barbara has."

"I don't remember that there was punching," Priestly said. "But, you know, you could have one glass, right?"

"I can! But you know me and sweets." Momoko indicated her plate... with her fudge-holding hand.

"Uhm. I remember one guy I punched was a bouncer at one of the clubs, one was a guy who wouldn't let me on stage..." She managed to look sheepish. "And I think Karla said I hit the guy who sold her his liquor store. Something about cupcakes and vodka? But I don't really remember much of anything from that time."

"Why is Dinah serving champagne, anyway? oh oh! Did she finally rent an office?"

"Not that I know of, no," Priestly said. "We just decided we like champagne. You know, I never had any before Barbara's wedding? It's really nice."

"It is! I've had it at New Year parties before, but only for toasting. Never for really drinking." She gave him a curious look. "Speaking of the wedding, how was it? Being that close to all that romance?" Priestly had practically been in the party, after all, hadn't he?

"Give you any ideas?" Hmmmmmm?

"It was fabulous," Priestly said. "You were there, it went amazingly. The ceremony, the party. . . . The wandering drunkenly upstairs to a hotel room after the party. . . ."

Priestly would go into no further detail on that last bit. He was a gentleman and Dinah got to tell Momo the actual news.

"I was there, but you were allowed behind the scenes and in the front pews." Momoko had had to sit next to an old woman who smelled like hyacinths and muttered to herself.

"Drunken wandering... It wasn't one of Dick's ex-girlfriends, right? They totally can't be trusted, Priestly." She lowered her voice and leaned in to whisper: "one of them, at least, is a former villain, I heard."

". . . You know, I'm not completely sure. We've talked a lot about her exes --" Usually while they were her still-datings, over the years, "and Dick never came up, though. So I don't think so."

"Good. You totally don't need to be with someone who may turn into a villain at any moment." She sighed with relief. "Unless it's one of those Fandom weirdness times, I mean, of course." She totally didn't want to give him anything to use in his 'Not Gonna Date Dinah' lectures.

Speaking of... "Did Dinah approve her?"

And then the horrid thought occurred to Momoko and she reached out a hand to his chest: "It wasn't Ms Helena, was it?!"

"Dinah is absolutely in favor of it," Priestly assured her, then snorted into his champagne and started laughing. "Oh my god. No. I mean, don't think I haven't dreamed about that, but nooooooooooo, she'd eat me alive."

"Exactly! That's what I was going to say!" A sigh of relief. "Sometimes I think New Gotham's tourism bureau needs to hand out a brochure of people to be careful of." Not that her Gotham was any better, but this one had Priestly in it!

"So was it just a one-time thing? I promise not to stalk her, you know." Or at least be caught at it, now. "So you can tell me if you're dating someone."

"You promise not to stalk this one?" Priestly teased. "We're not really dating. But we've made the hooking up a pretty regular thing. There's been, you know, PDAs and stuff."

"I promise!" When you were a professional, it was called 'shadowing'! And besides, she had two Oracles who could dig up all the dirt necessary on the girl, if needed!

Momoko smiled at him gently. "If that's not really dating, what is? I mean, you do care for her, right? And have fun being with her?"

"What's the fun in that?" Dinah asked, surprising Momoko with a stealth-hug. "Hey you! Try the pink champagne, it's really good."
