Spike alerted us that vamps were coming, and I knew that this was a moment where it was important for Jada to take the lead and for the two of us to be in the background. We would help her, obviously, but this was her show.
She was the one that had suggested coming out here and it wasn’t like I was throwing her into a fire blind, or whatever, like what had happened with me the first time that I saw a vamp.
She had killed three vampires on her own in a jealous rage when they had been sent after her by the First, but didn’t kill her, and instead, killed her family before she killed them. Still, there were so many things about her powers that would take months to grasp and I was alert, because I knew that grief was partially fueling her and anger going along with grief and from experience, I knew that those weren’t easy things to fight through.
The vampires here would probably not be as strong as the ones that had killed her family, but you never could tell these things. Most vampires were weak, compared to say Spike, or Angel or somebody like Kakistos, but all of them were dangerous. I was of the opinion that the First wouldn’t have sent weak vampires to kill her, so these two probably weren’t as strong, but that was just the thing. This could be Angelus or Spike in a new era, for all we knew, which was one of the things that we had to teach Jada, although right now, she may not exactly listen to coaching.
They showed their wrinkly faces and looked at us like food. It was always the same old thing. Yeah, these vamps probably were just out for some easy blood and were probably harmless as far as me slaying them went. Jada, that remained to be seen.
“Use your anger, but in a good way. Don’t be afraid to kill quickly. If you make one mistake, well…if you were alone, then they have you. It only takes one mistake. Even feeble vamps like these two can kill you if you lose your edge and your concentration. If you were dealing with somebody like Spike, and lost your concentration, then you die. But, these two, I can tell, are nothing like Spike. Still, you are stronger then they are. Remember that. If you fight a good fight against most vamps, they have no chance. Keep your balance and again, don’t be afraid to kill them fast.”
I looked up and the two vampires were running. They heard me talking and thought better that they run. Spike chased after them, and we followed.
