Well, one of the sources of friction in this office is the fact that there are (even with 2 people off) two less desks / computers than members of staff who come in here to work. Especially at this time in the morning. In the our actual office, there are 3 desks, which usually seat the boss, and two other girls one of whom is off. As i am the 4th member of this 'team', while the one person is off, i have been sitting at her desk.
The thing is, it is always me and a particular other person (lets call her JS) that end up without a desk to use when there is a full quota of people here. Recently we were given one to share, which kind of worked out, but then the adjoining office (where the desk was put) got a new member of staff, who adopted that desk for themself. Once again this left me and JS with no space.
SO, person from our office goes off sick, and me and JS begin to share her desk for the duration right? For starters, its not ideal as she has tonnes of stuff, but i can live with that as i have none, bar a stapler. BUT, the problem is, firstly that we're both a bit aggrieved that having been here 3 years (her) and 1 year (me) the establishment haven't sorted us out with a desk and a place to keep our things. Furthermore, in general, wherever she chooses to sit at any given time, JS treats like her space, and her space alone. And other people follow suit. I get guilt tripped for sitting down to work at her space even when i need a computer and she doesn't, or like today (which prompted this rant) when she's not even in the office yet and i am!
Its just not right...
