Yet Another Cosplay Update!
Just a couple of updates on my current cosplay projects! Ohayocon is a little over a month away and I'm actually making some progress with Saria, YAY! I found some decent material a couple of weeks back for the main part of the outfit... it was really hard, too. I looked at Joann fabrics several times and they had some awesome colors, but the materials that I liked seemed to wrinkle A LOT. And for a unitard type thing... well... that wouldn't be good! Also, I wanted to find that middle-ground of "not too dark" and "not so vibrant that it's gonna kill your eyes." I saw some freaking NEON colors and I was like... "ummm, no." Plus, I wanted a shade slightly more toned down than my wig, and a lot of colors were just too close to my wig shade. So, here's what I found at Wal-Mart. I thought it was a pretty color, and cheap, too!
What do you think? It's SO HARD to match a color exactly to the game... the promo art of Saria is considerably darker than what she looks like in the game (at least on my tv screen) and every Saria I've seen on cosplay.com is a little different, which I think is totally awesome how everyone has their own interpretation of her. I guess she's one of the few characters where you can have any combination of greens (for the most part) and (hopefully) not get knocked for it!
Aaaand... I was bored last night so I played around a bit with my wig, and all I have to do is brush the ends a certain way and they flip forward like Saria's hair! A little hairspray, and I should have no worries! I took some sort of myspace-ish pics to give you guys a preview... once again, what do you think? I like the bright wig color because I think it looks more fantasy-like and cartoony, which is fun! Saria is a bright, bubbly character... and I want my cosplay to portray that!
The sweater I'm wearing is indeed the sweater I'm using for my cosplay. The shirt, obviously... isn't even constructed yet so that's just a random green shirt that I have on in these pics. Haha. The headband that I have on my head is not green... but it's most likely the one I will use for the costume, since it's comfortable and a light enough color that I should be able to dye it or paint it green. I'm always looking around for one that's accurate in itself, though. I realized, after the fact... that my hair should have been pushed more behind the headband... but meh, it's a preview, so not everything is gonna be perfect yet! XD
So... once I get the unitard constructed, I just need a belt and boots! Boots... well, I have no idea where I'm going to get them. I'm hoping to get lucky at a thrift store possibly? Or even the local shoe outlets. I want the belt, boots, and headband to match, so I'll dye or paint them all the same color once I have everything and match a suitable color to my outfit. My pointy elfin ears and ocarina are kindly being taken care of by my parents for Christmas. YAAAAY for cosplay gifts! Thanks, mom and dad! XD
Also, my Annette Birkin cosplay is totally gathered... except for... A DAMN WIG! GAH! I've looked everywhere and cannot find something suitable within my price range. People either have the right style, but wrong color... or it's waaaay too expensive. So, I'll continue searching since I don't need her until Otakon anyways. Hopefully I'll have more money by then and I won't have to worry about the money that I spend on a wig. I'm happy that I found everything, though. I just need to modify the lab coat to be the right length, print out the name badge ID, and get that wig... and we should be set :)
