Today me and Anne Marie went to the Merion Mercy Academy which is a private all girls Catholic school run by nuns at a covenant. It was very posh and a typical American high school inside. We got shown around by AM's friend, Vanessa who is the librarian there. She was lovely. I went into 3 different classes, each one was only about 30 minutes long and started and ended at odd times. The first class I went into was an English class where they were looking at the structure of poetry. They were fascinated by my accent and how I came from England so the last 5 minutes was a question and answer session with me and English schools. The next lesson was art and the girls were so talented considering they'd only started doing art in September.
Lunch time and the staff get complimentary lunch which was sort of like a cafeteria kind of set up but with healthier food. I got told that I had to sample a soft pretzel and a Tastycake. The pretzel was lovely and I saved the Tastycake for later. AM went home after lunch but not before Vanessa let us have a bit of her chocolate brownie. It was the most delicious chocolate brownie I have ever tasted. I went to my last class of the day, a History class. It went completely over my head. I felt really thick.
Went back to the house, dropped my stuff off and headed into town. I decided to go and check out Fairmount Park. I got off the Septic train at 30th Street station, with the intention of taking a shortcut along the Schuylkill River, however I didn't quite read the map correctly and went the wrong way. So I decided to head down to the LOVE statue. I'm glad I did because it was beside a really nice fountain and because it was a hot day (about 25C) I was really tempted to go swimming in it.
I walked up the Benjamin Franklin Parkway towards the Museum of Art. It was a really good walk. I went past a Henry Moore sculpture:
The Franklin Science Institute and the fountains at Logan Square. Benjamin Franklin Parkway has flag from every country being flown in alphabetical order (apart from a few which are next to relevant buildings) going right the way down the road.
I went past the Rodin Museum and saw a statue of The Thinker outside
Got to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and saw the Rocky statue
Before going up the Rocky steps
to see the fantastic views of central Philly from the top
Went round to Fairmount Park and stood on the bandstand bit on top of the rocks to enjoy the super views of the Schuylkill River...
Before heading back along the path beside the river down to 30th Street Station.
When I got back to Narberth we sat out on the balcony, enjoying nachos and the sunset.
