Due to being a complete Kaiser Chief obbsessive (even more now that I've just followed them around England...) I went to Antwerp to see them play at the Hof Ter Lo. There were two reasons for this... 1) I wanted to see them in a small venue 2) I was about to spend the next two weeks in a school when at the time I wasn't looking forward to it.
Anyway, Thursday teatime I flew out to Brussels, I was admiring the Norfolk towns and countryside below when the pilot announced that soon we would be starting to land. Turns out that we were actually over Belgium, the flight was that quick it was over before I knew it. Brussels airport is fab, for the first time ever, my bag was actually waiting for me to pick it up, rather then me waiting for it!. Got the train to Antwerp (for some reason I love European trains even though ours are smarter) and arrived at the beautiful Centraal Station. Should have taken some photos of it really, but I wanted to find my hotel which was about 30 seconds away : ) (very handy) The guy at reception seemed to be flirting with me. I had a lovely view of the square in front of the hotel.
Sorted myself out and went for a walk, forgot to get a map so got to the end of the square and turned right, turns out I should have gone left but nevermind, at least it meant I knew where the venue was when I stumbled across it during my walk.
The next day I went for a wander around Antwerp, there are some beautiful buildings. Since Antwerp is famous for its diamonds and my hotel was right in the diamond district (it was in fact next door to the diamond museum). I decided to go and look around the jewellery shops. Howver after looking in two shop windows at diamonds I'd never be able to afford I got bored and headed< to some normal shops. Then I headed to the zoo!!!!
<3 <3 <3 Antwerp zoo!!! I got there not long after it opened so it was really quiet to begin with. However it wasn't quite quiet enough for me to not get strange looks as I took photos of Simon Bear and Whitey Bear
There were loads of stars around the zoo, mainly filmstars...
Pumba from the Lion King
Nellie the elephant...
Elton John...
King Kong...
The cast of Happy Feet...
Pingu...
Nemo and friends (pointed out by Whitey Bear)
Tigger...
More from The Lion King...
Batman...
Donkey from Shrek...
Dumbo with his entourage..
I also bumped into fellow Kaiser boardie Mrs Sloth...
I also saw a flamingo that looked like it had two heads...
And some really cool giraffes...
Next to Elton John I saw a giant empy tortoise shell...
This may look like a normal giant empty tortoise shell to the untrained eye... but to Ricky Wilson its a new home...

Part 2 about the gig to come later/tomorrow
