Long time, no write!

Whew it has been a while. I am back at school. I got back down here on the 15th and so far, so good. I'm working as a desk receptionist in my hall and I really enjoy it. (We just got a brand new Mac at the desk, something new & exciting for me to play with). The girls are great and it feels good to help out...not to mention to convenience for me. My first roommate is named Sam/antha. She is from Traverse and is also working as a deskie. She is super nice and I think we have a lot in common. The other two are coming on Thursday, they're freshmen and I have no clue who they are...but whatev.

I've been kind of busy with desk training, but have also had plenty of time to just relax and do some pleasure reading. We are doing the main room in safari theme...yay! I am super excited about that.

Okay, so today three girls moved in early. (You can pay fat $$ to move in early). For the most part, the girls and their parents were friendly and I answered a lot of questions for them. Then, one Dad asks if we have an elevator. I explained to him that our elevator is strictly used for service & people with health issues since is old and rickety. I told him that we allow people to use it to move huge items like couches, but that's about it. He told me he had some items like that, so I let him use it. To use the elevator key you have to collect some type of collateral, typically an ID or driver's license. So, I give the father the key, and explain to him that I will need his ID until the key is returned. I'm very polite and have a nice smile on my face. And verbatim, this is what comes out of his mouth as he takes the key and begins to walk to the elevator, "How about I give you Jennifer Granholm's phone number, that should be collateral enough for you...I could buy this whole building if I wanted to." Dumbfounded that someone would say something that rude to a nineteen year old girl who is trying to help him and make his daughter's move-in experience run more smoothly, I quickly recovered and stated again that I needed his ID. At this point, the head BMW man heard what was going on and came to the rescue. No nonsense, he marched over to him and said, "Sir, I need to take your driver's license, that's the policy." The guy rolled his eyes and murmured something under his breath before forking it over. WHAT A JERK! It takes all kinds, I suppose.

So...tomorrow I have four hours of new desk worker training in the UC...that should be a blast...not. I'm excited for Welcome Weekend this weekend when Jenn, Marina, Anne, Renee, Leah & all the girls from last year will be returning. It should be fun. YAY!
