I'm making this a public entry because I feel that everyone should know about this. If you're going to post hate comments then fuck you.
K so as most of you know, I'm a senior now...I tried out for volleyball at PCA...It's my first and only year there...I found out that Rick Veno is the varsity coach there a couple weeks ago. Now let me tell you about Rick....His daughter Katie (freshman) plays volleyball and we've all been playing Friday nights at Noble and such...He was never nice to me. I would make a good play and he wouldn't say good job or anything. But when I made a bad play he would be the first one to point it out. I never did anything to make him mad. I was always nice and friendly to him, his wife, his daughter, and his son. Everyone in his family except him are all nice to me as well....
So back to tryouts...They were yesterday and today. I got the call and I was told that I was on fucking JV. I was like that's not right...I'm a senior and I was better than half the girls there...Not to be cocky or anything...My dad called the JV coach and he told my dad that he told Rick that I should be on varsity but Rick said that I scored lower than other girls on the drills that we got scored on...I thought I did pretty damn good on the drills that we did...So yeah anyway...Dad talked to the JV coach and when he suggested I be on varsity to Rick, Rick said that he wants to "build up" the varsity team...Meaning he wants to put freshman on the team who I am better than over ME....During dad's conversation with the JV coach he found out that Katie, Rick's freshman daughter made varsity...As a fucking freshman. It's nothing against freshman but you have to be pretty fucking good to be on varsity as a freshman...and she's not even that great. I mean she's good but she's not the greatest. We also found out that were a total of 3 freshman on varsity. I'm pretty sure I know which other 2 besides Katie but anyway...
My dad called Rick and chatted with him and told him that it really isn't fair and all that stuff....
So here's the issue...Whenever a parent coaches their kid, they almost always favor their kid no matter what sacrifices need to be made. I say almost always because when my dad helped coach in middle school, he never favored me. He treated me like everyone else on the team. There was no favoritism...
Has anyone had this issue where their coach is a parent of someone on the team and they favor their kid over everyone else?
Another thing that bugs me...I switched schools hoping to get away from the hippocrates at Somersworth but then I find more here...My dad is paying 6,000 for me to go to school this year. Volleyball costs an extra 100 to play. Why are we paying all this money if I'm going to be treated the same way here as I did at Somersworth?
K here's my final thing...I miss volleyball in middle school because it was about having fun and playing not to win, but to do your best and have fun. What ever happened to having FUN while playing sports? It's all turned into a huge deal about competition and awards and trophies and medals. What's the point of an award if you didn't have fun while acclomplishing it? Wherever I go to play volleyball these days I get shot down for wanting to have fun....Somersworth....Friday nights at Noble......Tuesday nights in Rochester...and now here at PCA where we pay a shitload of money to go to school. What the fuck is wrong with society these days? Grrrrrrrr. Everyone else can mess up but once I mess up, people never forget it. It's getting out of hand and when MY children are in school, if this happens, shit is going to change because it gets worse each year...
If you've read all of that I love you...Please reply if you have any opinion on this issue. I'm thinking of writing an editorial to the newspaper or something...
