Going to the State Fair today.
I've been to the Fair every year since 1975, always go at least once, even in recent years since my foot's been giving me so much trouble, can't seem to stay away, and it's funny how many things change over the years, and how many don't - some Things That Have Stayed The Same: Crowds, Corn Dogs, Malts, Cotton Candy, Exhibitors, Concerts - some Things Have Changed: Machinery Hill (gone), Mexican Village (gone), Cell Phones (Mobiles), More Healthy Foods These Days, No More Freak Shows - and you know, when I think back on years past, it's hard to believe we were able to function without cell phones, but somehow we did - it was just a lot harder to meet up with anyone there - it's also interesting to look around and think how many of the current fair-goers weren't even born when I started going - but that's a constant thought of the aging, I guess - some years are just a blur, but other stand out for things that happened: for blistering hot days, for torrential rains, for going with dates (fun and not-so-much), for going with the kiddies, going with my buddies, for concerts attended, and people (famous celebrities and old friends) met, but it's funny, the year that stands out the most, I think, was a few years back, when the whole time I was there I was looking forward to getting home and writing someone about it all, and maybe it was the writing down of the details that crystallized them in my head, but I recall that year most of all, and you know, I do confess, I still make note of everything to tell about later, and I do miss that, well, mostly I just
MY - anyway, I'm headed out, maybe I'll write about it here later - peace, out
