There was a ferris wheel on the island.
It wasn't a big one, not like the London Eye or the Wonder Wheel or that one that was on Navy Pier in Chicago. It was more like the ferris wheels that came with the travelling carnivals, rolling in and setting up shop in a parking lot. Looking up at it Erica wondered why it was here. It was a nice distraction or would be once she got a chance to ride it. Other than that it seemed sort of out of place, like there should be a circus built up around it. Maybe there had been, once upon a time, but that was long gone.
The view must be nice. She had a soft spot for these little attractions and had since she was a kid. There was some kind of hokey about them and she couldn't help but wonder about how many labor laws they were breaking by being in existence. But she liked carnivals, enjoyed the circus and found the stale candy that was purchased with tickets at arcades to be kind of fun.
Walking over to the base of the wheel, she hunted around until she found the controls. Letting out a soft shout of triumph when she found it, Erica frowned down at the box. The temptation to push buttons at random was strong, but she didn't want to do damage to something that didn't belong to her. She was just about to give up when she heard the crunch of footsteps. Turning her head to see who it was, she smiled at the sight of Sam.
"Hey. You wouldn't happen to know how to work a ferris wheel, would you?"
