Here's
Sheana's post regarding comments and CAPTCHA:While this isn’t a hard and fast rule, it’s one of the most important things you can do to make sure you have a successful, fun Blogathon - turn on your comments! In order for our monitors (who are going around today to introduce themselves) to be able to get in touch with you, cheer you on and generally tell you how awesome you are, you need to have comments enabled! This isn’t a hard and fast rule (not this year, anyway), but we strongly suggest that all bloggers participating in the Blogathon have commenting enabled (even better if you enable public/anonymous commenting, so the monitors and other visitors don’t need to register just for the event).
Also, and important note: while many folks use CAPTCHA mods or plugins to prevent spam commenting on their blogs, CAPTCHA can make commenting impossible for Blogathon volunteers, as well as for your sponsors, friends, and others visiting you during the Blogathon. For this reason, if you have comments enabled, we ask (though we won’t remove you - we’ll just be a little bummed!) that you disable CAPTCHA for the duration of the Blogathon (and a little before, if possible, so monitors can say hello!).
If you don’t have comments enabled, don’t worry - we’ll still be visiting you all the time, and your site will still be able to be highlighted on the main blog here during the event. If you do need to get in touch with your monitor and you don’t have comments enabled, we suggest posting a thread in the Blogger Discussion forum, or sending us an email (we can forward it to your monitor, if you ask). Not incredibly difficult, but wouldn’t opening up comments be infinitely easier? :)
I'll also add a reminder that your posts must be public, so if your journal is usually friends-only, you're going to have to make sure you 'thon posts aren't locked. Otherwise, how will your monitor (and other thonners) know you're posting, much less be able to cheer you on?
So: Public posts, preferably with anon commenting enabled. Easy!
