That's right -- as the subject says, Blogathon starts in less than 48 hours! Are you excited? Have a plan for what to talk about (or a plan to wing it)? Been getting support or are you struggling to find sponsors?
I want to see who else is out there from LJ land! (The friends list is an easy way to follow fellow bloggers who are on LJ!) If you feel so inclined, make a post to this community with a few things about you: who you are, what charity you're blogging for (and why!), what kind of things you're going to post about, any sponsor incentives you might have, and anything else you feel like sharing.
I'll start! I'm feather, aka
featherjean. This is my third year of participating in this event -- I did the official blogathon in 2007 and last year's unofficial "Day of Blogs." It's always been a blast, and I'm excited for this year!
I'm blogging for the
National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. The NFCA is dedicated to raising awareness of celiac disease in order to get people diagnosed, as well as to fund research for a cure. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack itself when a person eats gluten. (Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye, and related grains.) The symptoms can range from moderate to very severe. It's not an uncommon disease, but too many people have never even heard of it. The average time it takes someone to get a diagnosis is ten years. That's not right. I'm blogging for the NFCA because people need to know about this disease and need to get diagnosed if they have it. The only "cure" right now is living a gluten-free lifestyle (no gluten at all in your diet). It's not easy, but it's doable -- and the more people know about the disease, the easier it will be.
During blogathon, I'm going to be baking some gluten-free goodies (bread and brownies) and talking about various things related to celiac and other gluten sensitivities. I also plan to do some crafty things (sewing or knitting) and taking pictures of what I'm working on. Other than that, I just plan to have fun! (I may write and post some fiction, too...)
And of course I'll be spending time reading other people's 'thon posts! I can't wait!
