Get excited!

Whew! We're at T-5 days 'til the event! If you're not checking the blogathon site and the forums, you should be!

There are just under three days left to register for the event! No new registrations will be taken after 5:00 pm PDT on July 22nd. You have to register to officially participate! The site keeps track of your sponsors and sends them a reminder email after the 'thon so they know where to donate.

Now, updates from the blogathon.org blog!

First, last week Sheana posted a plea for sponsors -- many bloggers still need support: Right now, with just over a week until the Blogathon starts, our bloggers have raised just over $9,300. While we don’t like to compare to past years - every year has its own unique aspects and experiences - it does seem that pledging is a bit down this year. We know that folks who might usually be quick to pledge their support have a little (and, in some cases, a lot) less this time around than they did in 2007, but many of our bloggers - far more than usual, at this point - are totally without sponsorship.

So, we’re taking a minute to ask you to help.

Please consider sponsoring one of the bloggers who are blogging for charity this year. If you click that link, you’ll see the bloggers sorted by funds raised - while we give kudos to those who’ve managed to raise a bunch, we want to draw your attention to the right side of the screen. Over the next eight days, our volunteers will be posting about different bloggers who haven’t gotten that first sponsorship yet - we encourage you to consider pledging your support for them. While one big part of Blogathon is the community that comes up in these few weeks in July and the fun that we have during those final 24 hours, the point that we do this, all of this, is to raise money for charity.

If you’re thinking about pledging but not sure if you can, remember that right now is just a pledge - the Blogathon isn’t for more than a week, and we won’t send out emails requesting for folks to fulfill their pledges just yet. And, since you’re thinking about it, keep in mind - any amount, big or small, helps. Whether you’re pledging 5 dollars or 500 dollars, it still makes a difference to the charity you’re supporting, and the blogger who’s blogging for them.

Heather posted about 'thon bloggers spotlighted in their local media: As July 25th draws closer, many bloggers are finding that news agencies and local media have taken an interest in their participation in this year’s Blogathon. We say: Awesome!

Check out some of our ‘thon bloggers who are getting themselves some exposure:

~ Open-Books.org has been featured by Examiner.com

Jen posted a note to RAINN bloggers: Attention RAINN bloggers:

Chelsea @ RAINN would *LOVE* to talk to you about your Blogathon effort. If you haven’t talked to her yet and need her contact information, email me (charity[at]blogathon[dot]org).

If you want to blog but need a cause, Chelsea would also *LOVE* to work with you.

Sheana posted a "sponsor me" button tutorial -- know it, use it, love it! (You don't get sponsors without asking, and you don't raise money without sponsors!)

Finally, Heather has another blogger spotlight, this time focused on bloggers supporting children's charities.
