Let's Dance!

Woohoo, more not-really-live blogging! ^o^

One thing I forgot to mention about the auditions was how Nigel should really stop ordering his hair from the 70s. And also, I could understand the judges' reactions at that weird, really... close brother/sister act, but what the hell, had they never heard of same-sex ballroom dancing*? Stop being a homophobic git, Nigel. I thought it was cool that one of the guys was straight and totally comfortable dancing like that with a gay guy. They were pretty good, thought not as high-level as others who made it farther.

All right, let's go!

Oh, Cat, is wardrobe hating on you again, the way it did in season 3, when they kept cutting your skirts off at exactly the wrong length and stuck you in some sort of clown tuxedo bib with bows? Shame on them, because they should have figured out by now that if anyone can almost pull off a crimson dust ruffle, it's you. <3

Randi & Evan (jive): Haha, the "fun" counter just about killed me. XD So yeah, it was fun, but not the most memorable dance ever, though it was a great way to kick off the night, and stronger than several later acts. Randi's growing on me, she's really cute.

Melissa & Ade (jazz): I think the 80s had a dream of living forever, and they dreamed up Sonya [the choreographer] so their legacy would live on. That having been said, I kind of love her, and I applaud whoever made the decision to put Melissa in those pants. Rrrowr! Ade being topless and in leather pants was also a nice touch, and who can really blame Cat for demanding a threesome? XD Seriously, did she realise what it sounded like? If so... heeeee. <3 Oh, right, the dancing. It was pretty hot!

Caitlin & Jason (hip hop): Ehhh... I already can't really remember much about the number, so it wasn't all that great, except to highlight what a tiny waist and sexy figure Caitlin has.

Janette & Brandon (disco): A number that made me want to do disco! This was awesome! Not just because of the lifts, which were incredible, or the speed, which was dizzying, but it was a great performance, and I was grinning throughout. I also covet that dress.

Asuka & Vitolio (waltz): Another amazing number, achingly beautiful. They were both gorgeous, and their dancing was flawless.

Kayla & Max (jazz): Cracked-out, but in a good way! I really liked this. The story was clear, and they both played their characters to the hilt.

Karla & Jonathan (contemporary): Beautiful. I have nothing else to say. Except that Karla is wonderful. And I was wondering why the choreographer looked familiar -- they've poached her from the Canadian show!

Jeanine & Phillip (tango): Jeanine was sexy, but Phillip wasn't on the same level as she was. It's in dances like this that lack of training is glaringly obvious, though I'm sure Phillip did the best he could. I really liked the music choice, though.

Ashley & Kupono (hip hop): 2nd Shane Sparks routine of the night, and another ehhh... I liked this routine better, but nowhere near as much as his group number for last week's elimination show, or many others that he's done. The performance was okay, not great. Not really memorable.

Bottom three couples will (should!) be: Caitlin & Jason, Jeanine & Phillip, and Ashley & Kupono.

Aaaaand the results!

Ooh, who is surprised that Cat can rock a white suit? Not me! :D~~~

Cool choreography, Mia, but is there a specific reason the dancers are made up to look like they have Maori facial tattoos? I can't see what that bit of cultural appropriation has to do with either the music, the dance, or the costumes.

OMG, that Lil' C montage with reaction shots was comedy gold! XDDD

So I was right about Caitlin & Jason, but not about Jeanine & Phillip; obviously, Phillip's fans aren't letting him go anywhere. I was right about Ashely & Kupono, though.

Ashley is a million kinds of adorable. With this hair and make-up, she looks like Ashley Judd in De-Lovely.

And the third couple in danger is Kayla & Max.

Cat has a boyfriend? Lucky bastard.

Indian dancing! Nice. You can tell when an audience isn't full of dancers: they applaud for the big showy stuff but are silent during the subtle bits that are actually harder to pull off.

Based on the solos, I think Jason and Ashley should go home. Jason was just jumping around a lot, and Ashley, while cute, didn't really do much, though I like her better than Caitlin.

Huh. So I was right about Ashley (and now her ringlets are sagging a bit and she looks like a younger Madonna), but they eliminated MAX? Even if they loved Jason's solo, I would have expected them to send Kupono home rather than Max. Now they have no male ballroom dancer left! They should have kept him. :(

* I once did a dance show with a [gay] guy who was a judge at international same-sex ballroom dancing competitions. He paid the bills by giving private dance lessons to rich ladies.
