Finding a source: good yet bad

May 10, 2006 18:53

So I found a source today, Ogihara's "Adjectival Relatives" in Linguistics and Philosophy which deals somewhat with what I'm investigating. At first I was excited because that means that at least some people are thinking about my topic. Immediately following this validation, I got worried that I've been scooped. I haven't yet read it, but I skimmed, and it looks like there's some overlap but not complete overlap. Whew! I'm not sure if I can wait until tomorrow to start reading it. So excited. (I'm such a nerd.)

In other news, I thought that this advertisement for an electric body groomer was a joke, but you can eventually link to it from the Philips homepage. I find it more funny than persuasive.

I have a double take on male body grooming (aka manscaping). The feminist in me argues that anyone who's attracted to, let alone prefers, women with shaved pits/legs/upperlips, should do the same to him/herself, at least once. Then you know what these women are going through on a daily basis. The aesthetic in me reminds us that just as long, stringy hairs don't look good hanging out of your nose, they don't look good hanging off your...shoulders. ;-) The consumer may put up with them, but that consumer certainly wouldn't demand their presence and may even prefer their absence. Oh, and any size queen's known about "the optical inch" for a long time...double entendre intended.
