Last night Jeremy and I went to see the Conor Oberst show at the 400 bar. I didn't really have high expectations, and I was excited to see what he was going to bring minus the entourage of bright eyes.
I was pleasantly surprised on his performance - I thought he looked really refreshed (hair cut and all), and there seemed to be more positive interaction/dialog as well, something I don't remember from his previous shows. He was cute as a button so to speak. They sounded great and it was a great change to see him in a small venue.
There were a couple of complaints - and forgive me if this turns into a rant. We stood for 2 1/2 hours before he came on stage, standing in a very diverse crowd filled with 20 somethings all the way to forty year olds with ear muffs and new balances. It felt like it was a princess act of some sort waiting for him to play - all the while having to hold your coat, getting claustrophobic and anxious with some dude breathing down the back of your neck. We were very close and twards the end of the show I couldn't take it - between loud talkers and mr. breather behind me I needed to get to the back.
I felt really old at that point, and then I remember the dude with the ear protectors and I didn't feel so bad.
