Okay, so this is work related (and Meg, you'll get this one). I have to give props to Karen b/c it felt like she was sticking up for me in way twice today. To set things up, today is (was) bird bedding day which generally to get everything done (and we switched cleaning the toys, perches, and nests from Wed to today on top everything) takes at least 3 hours to get it done well without interruption. That's changing bedding, cleaning glassing, pulling out decor, cleaning dishes, provide bird baths, getting fresh food & water, putting everything back, adding in the heater for winter, and cleaning up the mess along with taking out the trash. A minimum of two to three trash bags. Not an easy or fun job. This has been something I've been doing the last several weeks and staying over to get finished.
Now lately, they've been having 3 people come in. Me to open, someone for mid-shift, and someone to close. Doesn't it seem like to anyone else that the mid person could--maybe?--do bird bedding since I've done pretty much everything else? It's not like I leave everything to them. Like I did today: fresh food & water were already by the cage on the cart, they had their baths, and all the toys & crap was cleaned and drying in the back. But, no, most Mondays they come in & I'm left to keep going in the cage to work on the bird habitat while they do whatever and wonder around. I wonder 'cause this time Karen wasn't off so it was just Jill & I schedualed and not all 3 associates...
Anyways, I'll come back to today's story in a minute. The subject's title relates to bird bedding & Jill but I haven't told you yet. First off, I want to tell you what happened earlier in the day before what happened as I was leaving. I was filled up the sink to soak the branches and crap from the bird habitat when Karen says Robert had a message for me. "If I wanted to keep being the opening associate, I had to have everything done by 9 o'clock." (Basically) Apparately, this is what others stores are supposely finishing by so I asked how many are opening: one. I say, "bullshit". Karen agrees and walks out to gravel vac. I follow her shortly and say the only thing that isn't done is bedding. The food/water's there but I don't put it in when I'd just have to pull it right back out. She said don't worry about what he said 'cause he's cranky and plus she likes how I open and that I get everything done. (That was good thing number one from her today.)
You have to understand. When I first started, we were giving until 1 o'clock to have opening done and that was with two people. Then, it went to 11 o'clock (I think that was with one person...maybe with two...). Today, opening is to be done by 9 am with one person. Here's a brief break down: New Arrivals & Quiet Room--about 1 hour each (sometimes more depending on animals, treatments, and now snake feedings), bedding--(mon bird) 3 hours (tues sm pets) 2-3 (wed back rooms) 1-2 (thurs reptiles) 1-2, floor--2-3. 11 o'clock is more probable than 9 with one person! Heck, even two! (We get there at 6 usually so only 3 hours for everything.)
Okay, why the subject title I choose and how it relates to Jill & Bird bedding. I got most everything done except bedding, gravel vac/algae scrab/glass wipe, & betta cups. The food/water was over by the habitat, the heater was out, they had their bath, all the crap was soaking in the sinking getting cleaned, and I had plans to try and clean the bird glass. Told Karen when she came that I was only schedualed till 1:30 and that we didn't get new bedding supplies in today. She actually told me not to start the bedding but I told her how I was going pull everything to get it cleaned at least, which she said was fine. My plan after that was to get bettas done then work anything else till I had to rinse off the stuff in the sink.
Didn't work out that way though. Not sure why I went over there but at one point I went around to the New Arrivals, and there was Karen and our small animals delievery guy. Didn't know we were getting anything today and apparately neither did Karen. They weren't suppose to come till Wednesday but they changed the route and came today so suddenly Karen and I are scrambling to get places for these animals. We get it worked out after some arranaging (and rearranging on part). Got them all food/water, housing, and labels to know who's who. By that point, Jill had arrived which meant I was 30 minutes over. Finished this and went ahead and cleaned off the sink stuff, which I placed in the cart to dry in the back while I showed Jill what cat litter can be pulled off the shelf to be used as bird bedding. (No, really! Pine litter!)
Finally clocked out about an hour after I was suppse to leave and went to see Karen. She was cleaning the guinea pig's cages on the floor 'cause they reaked! She thanked me for staying and for doing what I did. And that's when I saw (hear) Jill's attitude. (This is what I find funny.) She was pissed off for having to do the bedding! Karen said, "I told her she could either do it or go home." (That was the second point for Karen today.) I asked when was the last time she had every done it and Karen doesn't think she even has. I don't think she has either. Both of us were kind of like oh, pity. She has to do it for the first time out of her poor, pitful life! Karen even made a comment about teenages. I really had to laugh at Jill's attitude at the whole thing. Yes, I hate cleaning bird bedding, mostly 'cause it's in that small room but I still do it and a lot more than any one else here. She was kindof slamming the doors in the habitat. It was laughable. She may try to but she can't get mad at me for not having any bedding since I didn't order any. Not my job. Big baby....Karen said made a comment about how I was leaving her with Jill like that. Told her I didn't make the scheduals.
Well, I just took a nap there...anyone else? That means. it's time for bed when fall asleep in front of the screen. Night guys.
