Realizing How Fortunate You Are
Well,
I had a interesting week. I served on Federal Jury Duty this week in the Western District of Tennessee. I found out when I called in at 9PM Sunday night after driving back and was unprepared to be out of work. I reported to the court house at 8:30 in the Jury Assembly Room with 150 other people. We were broken into three groups and we sat and waited.
At 10:45, we were led into the court room and we sat there and they started selecting the jury. The had us go through a exercise where we had to guess who was who in the court case. The details were revealed that the case involved child molestation and any people that could not be impartial or had issues could leave.
We broke for lunch and then we convened to continue jury selection. I was selected because of being a Single Male with no children.
Tuesday, The case opened with us finding out the defendant was accused of using a child to make child porn and using items shipped through interstate commerce to make and distribute porn. I could handle that but then we find out the man was molesting his nieces and fathered two children with his SISTER. We all winced at that point.
The mother is 31 years old and has 5 children. 2 girls from another man and 1 boy from another man. The youngest two were fathered by her brother. They lived together and he molested the two oldest kids. The kids told the mother but she ignored the pleas of the kids.
She found a video camera in the car on Easter, 2007 and watched parts of a tape and she saw him molesting her daughter and she made a copy of the video at Wolf Camera. It took 3 weeks for her to confront him and he pulled a gun on her and took the tape. The police stopped him without the tape. She showed the MPD the DVD she had but it was scratched. She got a duplicate from the store and gave it to the police.
The defense claimed she was a scorned lover seeking revenge for him leaving her. There was a adult female that posed for the camera in the beginning showing her butt tattoo and breasts.
So they called the mother to the stand and she was a hot mess. She was embarrassed at saying she slept with her brother and revealing it in court. The victim on the tape was put on the stand and she was pretty solid being 13 years old and going through therapy. The court presented the scene in question and we watched it even though it was rather disturbing. The female that posed was called and she looked like the women on Kendall's "Hip Hop Dykes" Video. Cheap ass ho!!!!
After more sordid details and having to watch the sick movie, we were deadlocked at 9-3 on Wednesday. We went back into the courtroom and the judge said, take a long lunch break and come back later. We did that and then we decided to watch some more of the 51 minute video. We saw his bad attempt of being the next director for Girls Gone Wild and was disturbed at the last scenes filmed in a hourly rate motel with a hooker and a gun and the video camera. The three dissenting jurors were unsure whether he was the one filming or was it someone else since others had access to the camera. The woman in the last scene called out his name and we jumped up and down like it was a Hail Mary on the last play of the Super Bowl. So he has had additional charges added to his prison term.
For my time, I get $120 plus mileage to and from court and a feeling of satisfaction.
At work, they sent a email out to be at work Wednesday for a important staff meeting. This could be the layoff meeting or reassignments. I will keep you updated.
