30 Days at Work
Well,
August 20 will be my official one month anniversary with my job. I managed to complete a Tax Increment Finance Application for the Beale Street area of Memphis and now am about to start on my brownfields work.
I am liking my work so far and hope it all goes well. I am having to adjust to different policies from my old job. I am stuck on probation until January 20, 2010. When that day happens, I get 5 annual vacation days and 2 bonus days. Then when my one year anniversary happens, I get 5 more annual days and 2 bonus days if I do not use any sick time. The county accrued your days every month so you knew how many days you had to the hours and minutes. When January 1, 2011 hits, I get all 10 days for the year up front and I have to take the days off or I lose them. So I can go on and get my days off for runs in January with no problem.
I found out that my job is moving to a different location in the city. If you did not know, I actually work for two agencies, The Memphis Housing Authority and the Division of Housing & Community Development. My office at 701 N. Main St was the corporate offices for a tobacco and snuff company in its previous life. It is a old building outside of the downtown area and the snuff company warehouse is still in use. In the mornings, you can smell the fresh tobacco in the air. The Memphis Housing Authority is 3 miles away in a small old building near the hospital district.
The director wants to consolidate our offices in one location and they are looking are leasing space in a high rise building that I call the Disco Building. My current dentist is located in this building and I call it that because there used to be a nightclub on the top floor of the building that revolved. I said as long as I have a windowed office with a door!!
I get to house sit for Terry and the Tribe as they go to Iowa to get married. And then go to Cheeseland aka Wisconsin for the Argonauts Run. I am really liking this job because I am the person making decisions.
So far, I am going to do things to extend my money out some and see what i can do. Its a adventure to reshape a budget but I can do it.
