Snow in the Suburbs

Some of you know how envious I am of your snowy winter landscapes. I came across this poem and thought I'd share it. While I think Hardy is a much better novelist than poet, I like this poem. I mean, what's not to like? Snow, plus cats getting rescued! Pretty cheerful for Hardy!

Lovely evocative images, which show us why it is better to be a cat than a sparrow...and of course this group would make the same choice to take in the wide eyed, thin cat that Gardy did. It was clearly a vegetarian cat, since it did not eat the floudering sparrow, don't you agree?

Arwen, who is reading a Child's Christmas in Wales, and dreaming tonight, of when Christmases were white.

Happy Holidays, everyone.

Um, that should have said Hardy....not Gardy.

I don't think cats can be successful vegetarians - maybe he was just SOL!

"A Child's Christmas in Wales" has always been my favorite Christmas story, from back when I was a kid. We'd read it every Christmas. I even have a tape of Dylan Thomas reading it somewhere around the house. Will have to dig it up, or make SO read it to me (I still love being read to). Last year I found and posted the URL to a site that had and audio of Thomas reading the poem, but it's defunct this year. Too bad. It made a nice cyber-Christmas present.
