Children of Earth was absolutely FANTASTIC!  It's the best of the Torchwood series yet.  I fucking LOVED it!

Yeah, I mentioned Suzie in my post.

HA. I must have been nodding my head so hard, I missed it.

But it's not in Jack's nature to settle down for long.

No, not really and until he made peace with the Doctor in S3 of Who, he was actively trying to get back to him which is one of the many reasons I thought he was keeping it casual with Ianto. That and he was still seeing other, er, things. You gotta love Torchwood for being able to use that word and have it not be derogatory.

All I can say is good for him. I think he's spot on, calling out the idiots who are accusing him on homophobia, or cleaning up "the gay" for BBC1. Because they are idiots.

I know. I loved it. The idea that RTD is trying to push some sort of anti-gay/heternormative (lol that word in connection with RTD) agenda makes me laugh and want to cry at the same time. How do you get that because a gay writer killed a gay character he's homophobic? Besides, wasn't he pushing teh gay just a few seasons ago? LOL fandom.

I also don't understand why people thinks he hates his fans. He doesn't. He may not like the attacks but I can't say I blame him. The TW fans have been over the top insane. The man himself is a huge fanboy, though. The concept that he hates fans is ridiculous.

Reading and writing fanfic, and paying to go see John Barrowman or Randy Harrison or Adam Lambert sing/act/whatever, does nothing at all to advance gay rights.

*snerk*

Yes, I went to see David in Hamlet and Love's Labour's Lost because I wanted to support the RSC.

That's not working for you is it?

If you're going to be a fangirl/fanboy, embrace it and own up to it! As you pointed out, wrapping it up in some cause is ridiculous and transparent.

Buying a lot of m/m romance novels/erotica written by straight women is not doing anything to advance gay rights.

ROTFLMAO.

So these asshats have a lot of fucking nerve telling RTD - who HAS done things to promote gay rights and visibility - that he hates and/or has harmed gays. What total fucktards. They make me sick.

But they have total insight into not only that fact that he's homophobic but that he's also a misogynist. What with a majority of the fanbase being female and him doing this to piss off his female fans. Yep.

Wearing your tin hat yet?

Sound familiar? Really, they're not even trying to recycle the QAF wank cleverly. Half of these accusations are almost a direct copy and paste from QAF wank.

::hangs head:: I'm ashamed that I know this.

Of course it is! I mean, I knew the only reason you were going to see DT was because of your deep love for Shakespeare's work, as performed by the RSC. And had I managed to get the time off, I would have been there, too, for the exact same reason! Arty, I am!

Exactly. Of course, DT isn't gay, so by being a DT fan, you aren't pretending that you're actively involved in supporting the gay community and gay civil rights issues simply because you're stalking - er, I mean forking out cash to see him perform and adding to the viewer count for his TV shows. Nope, you're just showing your innate good taste in men and actors . . .

And while I'm on this point, do these types of fans ever stop and think about how offensive they can be? They don't care one bit about lesbians or unattractive gay men. It's the cute guys that fuel their fantasies about men having sex that they latch on to. The newest flavor of the month is Adam Lambert, from American Idol. He's the new pretty (if you're drunk and seriously horny) gay boy for them to play with - to giggle over, buy tickets to see, try to meet, and, most importantly, read and write erotic fanfic about. Because their obsession has very little to do with the fact that he's a young entertainer who took a chance on being himself and coming out to the public. Their obsession is all about having a new gay boy to fuel their m/m sexual fantasies. It's offensive, and it's why so many of them are mocked and shunned and run off sites where the primarly posters are gay men. It's also why, IMO, the fake gay fanfic writers, who are really women, are so popular with this particular segment of the fanfic crowd. They feed into that desire these women have to hear intimate details about a "real gay couple." It's just more fanfic, but masquerading as real life. And it's usually fairly obvious, too.

But they have total insight into not only that fact that he's homophobic but that he's also a misogynist. What with a majority of the fanbase being female and him doing this to piss off his female fans. Yep.

A misogynist?? With all those cool, strong female characters?? Uh, right. I rest my case. They are INSANE!! Reading too many really bad m/m fanfic sex scenes has friend their fucking brains!!

Speaking of the strong women in TW, I saw this on LJ and thought it was pretty good. One more reason to appreciate RTD - he not only gives us a beautiful, multi-racial cast, and great characters who are gay or bi or have wonderfully fluid sexuality, but he also writes strong, interesting female characters:
