in fact the real story will be told by me, as my boss KNEW the original Bill Chate

Bill Chate was a loser at OT, and used to deal not very successfully. He was such a loser infact, the kids at OT began using his last name to describe things, much as he would do. When he would short change a customer, that would be "chating", but also if you were talking about something that happened in the past, they would describe that as "chate".
they also came up with a few other names to go along with Chate... there was chate-ski, chater-myer, chaten-ham, etc, etc.
Chate was the only one which stuck over the years (since he was in highschool which was around 92-93, i cant remeber).

And you know what the funny part is?
Bill Chate is wanted in Ontario for grow op's, and is a very successful pot dealer out on the west coast in BC.

if you go back UP to the link and click it, you will now realize that 1 and 2 are correct, 3 is a load of shit cause a girl didnt make it, 4 and 5 are also correct, 6 has some ACTUAL truth behind it, 7 is a lie cause i knwo a lot of people who say it, 8 just became funnier considering the guys first name who Chate is named after is Bill, and 9 is incorrect, its EARLY 90s slang.

there you have it, and i got about 8 guys who used to go to OT back in the early 90's who have accounted to it.
