4. What recent changes do you notice in your recent use in media? what accounts for this change?
The bulk of my childhood was consumed by the use of electronic media, specifically video games. my favorite form of entertainment was primarily the video game, from Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, X-Wing, Command and Conquer all provided an outlet for me to live in relatively 'realistic' fantasy worlds, and participate rather than act merely as a voyuer. This has changed to a certain degree throughout my college years, although the narrative aspects of video games still attract me, in addition to the variety of free-play elements in games such as SPORE, the Sims, and Grand Theft Auto, time constraints functionally prohibit me from investing as much time in video games relative to my youth, I've become more interested in progressively since being hired at my first job (which coincidentally was at a movie theater). I don't believe this is the result of any one major change, or that is infact in and of itself a major change, but rather just a slight adjustment in focus, my favorite games growing up centered around worlds that were also visualized cinematically, specifically the X-wing and Tie Fighter video game series based off of Star Wars, but in addition to that, the cinematic elements of games like Final Fantasy 7, Command and Conquer, and StarCraft continued to be the valued components in those games, rewards for completing elements of the games themselves. I was an early user of the Internet (relative, for my age group) chatting in middle school, learning rudimentary HTML, establishing and utilizing early on-line gaming networks...etc.
Perhaps the most in depth change regarding my media habits is my more recent academic approach to films, where normally i would watch a movie once for the story, then perhaps signifigantly later to remind myself of the story, i will now watch movies far sooner after my initial viewing to observe technical feats, although i still find myself when initially exposed watching more for the narrative than the technical aspects, i will notice breaks in the 'seamless invisibility' of the film more readily. Also, from an academic standpoint, i am more willing to discuss themes within films both 'underground' and 'mainstream'.
and that's all i've got. the end. hooray.
