Alright, I've come up with a way to combat my ever-present writer's block.
Every day at an unspecified time, right, I'm going to sit up and say to myself, "okay, you. Yeah, you. What you're gonna do right now is get off your ass and write something for a change. Yes, right now. No, not in five minutes. No, quit refreshing your friends page. And your RP journal's friends page. And fanficrants. Actually, get off LJ right now. Same goes for JF. And Hotmail. And that one messageboard you only visit to poke fun at the guys you used to trade pretend porn over MSN with. Don't bother taking your MSN off appear offline. Close that too. And AIM. And Minesweeper. Forget about Winamp or your iPod. And don't break out your DS. Not even if it needs recharging. The Pterry can stay on the bookshelf where it's happiest. Get your hands off the scrap paper pile, fanart time can come later. You're gonna write. What are you going to write? No, don't start watching your Digimon episodes again. Not even for inspiration. Or research. Pick a season and a scenario, then work from there. Get off the backspace key! No editing, or you'll never stop. Just write. For an hour straight. You're not going to whine about having no time, because you always seem to have time for LJ. If you hesitate for two minutes straight, you're starting over. Keep going until the hour's up. Then, and only then, you can go back to make corrections and say you haven't totally wasted another day of your teenage life."
It's quite a long mantra compared to "every day in every way we get better and better", but hopefully it'll do some good.
